mammogram w/ a medi-port still in?

in Breast Cancer #1
my surgeon wants a mammogram in between chemo & rads, but I will still have my port in, won't that be more painful as things are stretched and could it cause damage to the port?
Has anyone dealt with this?

    I had a mammo on remaining
    I had a mammo on remaining breast 1 year out of DX with port still in on that side - no problem. The techs were real careful and no more discomfort than any other mammo I've ever had.

    Mammogram
    I have had 2 mammograms with my port in and no problems. No it did not hurt any more then it usually does. I take 2 advil before I go it does help. Good Luck Cindy

    Thanks...I am surprised to
    Thanks...I am surprised to see all of the different time frames for a first mammo after DX, mine will only be a little over 4 months past bi-lateral lumpectomy & sentinal node & they are still pretty sore, so I can't imagine that w/ the port.

    Same here....
    Tech was very careful and worked hard at getting a good image, while sparing any damage to the port or myself.
    Just make sure you point it out to them.

    A lot has to do with the
    A lot has to do with the type of BC - some are more likely to spread to the other breast and some are more likely to spread to other parts of the body. I'm IBC and according to what all my DRs have said there is not much likelyhood of it spreading to other breast but other parts of body is another story.

    I'm glad you asked this question. I am having a mammo this month and I never even thought of that. I probably would have in the waiting room. LOL It is good to know it won't hurt anything though. I love this board.

    I was due for my yearly mammo in November last year but i had a port in right breast as i was being treated for ovca sooooo i had a breast MRI instead which wasn't painful at all. Could this be an option for you?

    Insurance probably would not
    Insurance probably would not approve the more expensive MRI just for discomfort. I had my 2nd round of chemo on Tues and the port has been accessed 4 times this week (fluids, etc.), it is raw. Thanks for the help, I just couldn't imagine the tugging from below it for a mammo. Onc wants to leave it in for 1 year, but will take it out earlier if it bothers me, I hate when decisions like that are left up to me.
