Almost Lost My Husband Today

Every day with cancer is an adventure.

Found out the latest CT scan showed cancer popping up in various places in his abdomen, neck of his pancreas, chest wall and there were more lung nodules. All these were small. That was the good part of the doctor visit.

Today my husband was supposed to start his Erbitux treatments. Unfortunately he had an anaphylactic reaction to it. He couldn't breathe, his blood pressure dropped to 60/40, he was very weak and he was covered with hives. The doctor said that was the worst reaction to the Erbitux he's every witnessed. They got everything under control at the doctor's office but the doctor said it was a close one. He sent my husband by EMS to the hospital for a few hours for observation. Just brought him home and he went out with his truck for about 45 minutes. I guess he had to digest what happened to him. I didn't want him to go out especially by himself considering what he had just been through but he's not the kind of person who listens to logic or me.

New appointment Wednesday with onc to see how my hubby is doing and to discuss other options.

Thanks for all your support and prayers in past posts. They mean more than you could every know. Today I was reminded of the day my husband was diagnosed and in one instant everything changed. You just never know what's around the bend. Live for today and hope for tomorrow.

Hi Skipper, I just said a prayer for you and your husband. Like some on this board, I've never been a religious person, but I'm getting better at prayer, and I hope your husband is recovered from his reaction and improves with treatment. I remember the day I was told my diagnosis. It was on the phone. The doctor who did my node biopsy likes to call people before they come to the office, so the first office visit can be something more than a blur for the patient. I was at work with people all around me waiting for me to help them--computers--and so I didn't know what to say to the doctor except, o.k. talk to you soon. Hang in Skipper, you're right, we really don't know what's round the bend.

    best, Hal

    Wow
    Skipper,
I can't get my head around how horrible that must've been for you two. Very glad he came through it OK. Hoping you leave Wednesday's appointment with a new game plan you feel good about - Erbitux isn't the only effective drug out there.

I am sorry your husband had such a terrible reaction & you are correct we never know what is going to happen next. I had a major wakeup call when I first joined this site. I truly
did not know what to expect with this disease & I wonder what each & every day will bring.
I pray that Wednesday's appointment go's much better for you both. My thought's are with
    you.

    Like everyone else...
Like everyone else has said, I will be keeping you and your husband in my prayers.

I can not begin to imagine how horrifying this experience has been for both of you.

    Stay strong,

    Scarey time
    Skipper,
That had to be so scarey for both of you to have to go through that. Thank God, he's okay. I'm sure what you said about him going out to his truck was true. He probably just needed time to think about what had happened and be thankful that he's still here. Keep us updated on his Wednesday appt. Good luck! "Carole"
