My mouth is so dry

How dry is it? It's so dry that......

I sneezed earlier and sand sprayed everywhere.
I was looking at the sores in my mouth and saw an oasis but it turned out to be a mirage.
I went to brush my teeth and a dead camel fell out.
I got a piece of water stuck between my teeth.
I've been using it at night to make beef jerky and banana chips.
The homeless have been using it to take shelter from the rain.
I have to prelube my dental floss with vaseline.
I thought I had a piece of food stuck in my throat; it was a cactus growing there.
Israel is sending firefighters just in case.

Seriously though. Very dry. But; only 2 and a half more weeks of radiation. Almost there!

    Bob,
I've got that "The Way We Were" song in my head. For the non-antiques out there, the song starts out "Memories . . . " But not missing the desert-mouth days.

Soldier on, Bob. And know that post treatment, I'm sitting here, eating some Chex Mix (yeah, without soaking it in chicken stock or something til it's mush - I had popcorn a few days ago). Last night, like every night, I did not wake up at all because I was dried out and had to drink. And there are some things the lovely sample people at Sam's Club offer me that I actually accept and eat even if I have no water on me (because I sometimes walk in without a water bottle clutched in my hand - got that? - my hand is not permanently shaped in the "c" position because I don't always hold a water bottle any more). OK, it's not perfect. It's not like pre-cancer days. But it's soooo much better than it was - you'll get there too (yeah, I know that's little consolation when you're getting up five times a night to gulp water, but you've got better days ahead). Do well.

Gotta say, I'm still with Bob on this one...
M&M's wouldn't melt in my mouth... Gummi Bears would adhere permanently... I could store my cotton balls in there... It's hard to do the "queen wave" with my right hand stuck in that water-bottle-clutch position... Still buying water by the case. Have to keep two water bottles in my purse.

Thanks for the inspiration, Pam. I guess there is still some hope, although I did get hit hard on BOTH sides by the rads.

GREAT POST, GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR
That was classic. I am right there with you. My mouth is so dry, I have to dry heave to bring up the little bit of mucous that is stuck way down in my throat.

It has changed the time in the morning when I Tube feed. If I feed just after I wake up, I have ended up vomiting up everything I just pumped in. It seems to start out as a dry heave to cough up a little mucous / saliva.

    Any advice or suggestions??

    Take Care

Laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. I'm 15 months post treatment and still sip water 24/7 but I wouldn't describe my dryness quite as bad as yours. Hopefully when you have finished radiation you will start to see improvement. It may take some time and will only improve a little at a time but you will improve.

    Stay well,
    Glenna

    overnight paste
Biotene makes a gel/paste that is long lasting. I read about Sweetblood doing it and tried it. It works well. I wake up much less dry than normal. It is kinda nasty tasting to me right now so it doesn't work well during the day. Might be just the thing for you Mike. Good luck.

My mouth is dryer than a popcorn fart.

Just last night I was in deep concentration in my office working. My 6-yr old walks in, asks me a question and when I went to answer, I realized my dry lips had fused together. Damn that sucks! Dry mouth like you've got Crazy Glue on your lips. He was cracking up laughing and called to my wife and daughter to come watch daddy try and open his mouth. It took some effort and I put on a good show for them.

Yeah I guess smoking pot is out of the question for head and neck patients. Can you imagine cotton mouth on top of Sahara Desert mouth! That would be just terrible!! No I don't smoke pot, and I plead the fifth if I've ever tried it!

Just yesterday I went to pull my mouthguard out after rads and my tongue came out with it. Then my lips were stuck in that position until I could make it to my water. Same show as yours for the rad techs.
