Kim,

Just to let you know thoughts and prayers are with you and Mark on Mark's scan this week, and to everyone who has scans coming up. Pat's scan is Wednesday and I know how stressed out I am. Here is to NED!

    Myka,

PLEASE don't tell me he has a scan (which type?) Wednesday and has to wait until after the weekend for results. When will you get the results? Hoping for a good report for Mark and Pat and me (CT and PET on the 15th - results on the 19th) and anyone else with scans coming up. Let us know.

    Pat has PET/CT on 10th -
Pat has PET/CT on 10th - results on the 12th. Luckily, we don't have to wait until after the weekend. Kim, when does Mark get results? Pam, we are DEFINITELY keeping you in our thoughts and prayers on 15th and 19th and look forward to hearing the NED results on the 19th! How long out of treatment are you? Is this your first scan?

    Keep us posted.

    Second Scan
    Myka,
I'll be eight months out when I get the next round of scans. Pre-treatment, CT and PET showed primary tumor at base of tongue and two enlarged nodes (one enlarged, one really big). Three months out, tests showed no tumor/no activity for the former primary site and formerly huge lymph node. Formerly enlarged lymph node was showing up as still enlarged, but reduced in size - PET activity at the node was greatly reduced - doc said he thought there was every chance that the cancer there just hadn't finished dying yet, but would - activity level at the node could be considered to be within the normal range, but elevated, so we're doing a wait and see on it.

Glad you all don't have to wait too long for results, Myka.

Wondering - do any of you have to follow any pre-scan dietary restrictions? I mean, other than the no food or drink for a few hours. I do not, but have seen folks post that they do.

    Do Well.

Why the long wait for results?
Good vibes to Pam, Pat & Mark on your upcoming scans, we need to hear about 3 more NED's!!

I don't understand why there is such a delay in getting the results of the scan. They have to know their patients are so anxiously awaiting the news. I had my latest CT scan last week and had the results in 1 hour. It has been that way for each scan that I have had. Cheers

    Waiting
I know, Jimbo - the last time I had scans done, the tech let me know the deal "OK, they'll have the reports within 24 hours". At the time, I thought "OK - next time I'll get the results appointment two days after the scans". Completely forgot all about that until tonight. Results in an hour would be a dream. Do well.

    Myka, you are AWESOME!!
Thank you for remembering and Thank you for the well wishes. I am sure you and I are feeling the same things as this week approaches. Like I said in earlier posts, I am mostly unaware of the the degree of anxiety I contain on a day to day basis, until I read something here (usually good NED reports) and then all this emotion comes spilling out. Today, I am extremely touched and feel less alone by your post. Only people here really know what these days are like.
My best to you and Pat on Wednesday.
Mark's scan is on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect in terms of hearing results. Marine has been treated at the same place, so I will tap into his data base for an answer. Mark does not meet with his ENT surgeon until 2 weeks after the scan. I imagine someone will let us know something before that.
    Taking a deep breath,

    Kim and Mark
All will be well, Kim- too soon after treatment for anything to show. That's the typical way it is, and I hope and Pray you and Mark will find this is true.

As for the wait on the results- my experience is that the wait is further proof of how unknowing some in the C-med community can be in regards to what we actually live with. I usually have to wait at least 4-days before I get a call from a Nurse to set an appointment for the ENT to give me the results. I have never forced the issue, but the wait they have me go thru does tell me a lot about how well they can relate to what it is like to have H&N C. And I've only had good results- so, "Hey, Doc, don't you think I'd kinda like to know everything is okay as soon as possible, instead of living with the significant possibility that my C is back for so many days?" Yeah.

I am trying to keep anxiety at bay...but had dreams last night of all kinds of lighted things floating around in Mark's body. So what I try to keep out of my mind during the day seems to find its way in during the night. Spent some time awake with my heart pounding.
I don't know when we will know what's what. Techs aren't supposed to comment during scans. Mark's appt. with his ENT is not for 2 weeks. We will enjoy each day as we always had...right?
Thanks again for you well wishes for today. Mark's biggest complaint: not being able to eat until noon.

    Funny Dennis,
You and Mark COULD pass for cousins...and in your present picture you remind me of my cousin's husband.
Mark hit 179-180, and now has dropped back to mid 170's. It is amazing how hard it is for him to put the weight on and keep in on. I would say he has put on about 10 pounds since the end of treatment. He is eating a good full diet, and throws in an Ensure now and then. But stays around the same weight.
Marine, I just spoke to Mark, no immediate feedback from the scan, but he was on the street outside of Penn headed for food somewhere. :)
He plans to just wait until he sees the ENT in two weeks for results. If it is bad news, might as well stay in denial for a while. If it is good news, it will still be good news in two weeks.
    Love to you all!!!

    Upcoming Scan
This Saturday, the 13th is my PET/CT scan. This is the first scan since the surgery/rads and I am plenty nervous. Then, of course, the waiting for the rest of the weekend will be nerve wracking until I get the results next week. Here's wishing and praying that all of us come up with clean scans. Go, NED!

    Two Weeks - Argh!
Mark's a better man than I am when it comes to waiting for scan results - I'll be whining every day for the four days I'll have to wait next week. Guess this just means you'll have to give me your good news after I give you mine. Do well.
