Hey Folks, Hope everyone is doing well! Indian summer seems to be kicking in here in WNY! :) I love the warm breezes. I am having my 1st post PET scan on Tuesday the 28th. Won't get the results till OCT 4th. So until then I appreciate any prayers you can send my way for a good result! BIG HUGS! :)

Looking forward to hearing good results!

On my list for the 28th
Prayers for a clean PET. Of course!!

Indian summer here in North Central PA too. Don't want it to end. I've been blowing off cleaning and just sitting outside reading and basking in the sun. There will be time to clean when it's cold and nasty. :)

    Charles, you da man...
    WTG bud, you've come far....

Best of luck on the experience and the news....

Also, to help relieve the anxiety (if you want), you can usually request a copy (free) of the report for yourself. If it's like my facility, they make a copy of the report and CD's for you at the same time they're available for the MD. You can usually get them in 3 - 4 days.

    Best,
    John

    Need More Good News
Hoping for it from both of you, Charles and Scam. Charles, can't believe you have to wait nearly a week for results - ugh - waiting four days (in Nov) will make me antsy. Do well.

    pet scan
Something here I don't understand. I had my pet scan at 12:30 lat Monday, my appointment with my oncologist was the same day at 2:30 pm. I had the scan, had some lunch and went to the doc's office. I go to the Hershey medical Center which is the medical wing of Penn State. For Kimba, I live just across the river from you in Wrightsville, anyway I go into the consult room, nurse takes my blood pressure and asks the obligatory questions and leaves. Doc comes in about 15 minutes later and says "let me show you your pet scan" there is a large screen in the consult room and I see the scan in living moving color. He said it was clear and great. Why do we have to wait some 5 or 6 days in some instances to get the results when they are read the same day? I said was he the only one to look at it? he said no the team had looked at it. Why the wait and anxiety? Denis

    My question, too Denis
I wait two to four days for results from scans. The last time I went in, the tech let me know that they'd send my doc results within 24 hours. Dunno why we'd be left waiting any longer than absolutely necessary - they surely know it's a stressor for us.

I don't usually have to wait
I had my treatment and have all my follow-ups at Johns Hopkins. But last year, my then-insurer (Aetna) said I couldn't have my PET scans at Hopkins, and I had to have them at my local hospital. They had to ship my results to Hopkins, and it'd be about two weeks before my ENT at Hopkins could go over the results with me.
This year I'm on Blue Cross-Blue Shield, which allows me to get my scan at Hopkins. I get it done in the morning and by 1 or 2 p.m. my ENT is going over the results with me.
Either way, the waiting doesn't bother me. Que sera sera, as the saying goes.

    I've wondered the same thing
I've wondered about the wait also. Sometimes I get my CT results in a couple of days and other times I have to wait a week. I called and asked my Rad nurse if she could give me the results over the phone or at least move my appointment up sooner. She said she couldn't as Dr. M has to read the results before he sees me, maybe he is really busy with many other patients (I know this is true) or else he is a real slow reader ;-)

I'm starting to learn not to let it get to me and just keep my mind on other things while I wait.

    My best to everyone,

MD Schedule & CT - PET Specialists
I tend to think it's both your MD schedules & CT-PET Specialists driven. I know that the ability is there to read at least the CT the same day. When I was initially diagnosed, my ENT had me go to another building for my CT. All within the same medical facility or compound. Anyways once I had finished, he had me return and went over it with me on his computer. It was already uploaded and displayed graphically.

I do know that there are MD CT-PET professional's that read and give their official reports to the prescribing MD's, that also could be a factor.

I'm not sure if the prescribing MD's take a peek or not. I know like mentioned earlier, you can ask for a copy of the reults and get the written, interpreted report and CD's the same time they are officially given to the prescribing MD.

I also called my ENT, whom wasn't the prescribing MD for my last PET a few days after I had it. He had alreay looked at it and told me (through his nurse) everything was good.

But my ENT is the head of my medical team consisting of himself, Chemo MD, and Rads MD.

    Best,
    John
