    Norma,

I actually was referring to your post, but I have been a litte more sensitive to things lately for some reason. After re-reading your post and then this one (upset), I see what you were referring to. With all the strains of HPV, it amazes me how many of us have anal cancer, despite the rarity of it. What's the odds, something like 1 in 50,000 that contract anal cancer. Ok, so of the 1 in 50k, how many were told that's how they got cancer as a result of HPV but never had a test done for proof?

This entire ride has been confusing to me, but I'm dealing with it, just as are the rest of you. My apologies for to you for being over-sensitive to something we all share.

    Hi Ranelle,

I think its about 6,000 cases a year. That is very rare. Lori

    how rare it is
So less than 6000 are expected to be diagnosed with this cancer...is that a world wide calculation, or just in the United States?

    Surgery is done
    Hi Everyone--

I had my anal wart fulguration this morning and all went well. Although once the local my doctor used on my anal area wore off about 3 p.m., I have had some moderate pain, perhaps a 6 on a scale of 10. So, I decided it was time to take a Percocet and am now again in a fog, as I was this morning from the general anesthesia. The procedure itself took only about 10 minutes, but the pre-op and post-op took the most time. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30 with surgery at 7:30, and was released at 9:45. I have laid around all day. My doctor spoke with my husband after the surgery and she is confident that the biopsy will come back all clear. I see her in two weeks for follow-up and probably will get the results then. Right now my main concern is having BM's. I think there's going to be some pain. Thank you all for your support and encouragement--I appreciate it very much. I'll update when I have something to report.

    Hi Norma!
Thank you for checking in on me. Yes, I am feeling much better. It's been almost a week now and my bowels are moving on a regular basis again and there isn't much pain or discomfort. Sitting for long periods still gets uncomfortable. The spot where my doc removed the perianal skin tag is the worst--still seeping some blood and slow to heal. Undies and pantyliners both rub right there and that's keeping it from healing, along with wiping, which has become dabbing. Still no word on the biopsy results. I doubt I'll know anything until the 30th. when I see my doc for follow-up. I'll be sure to let everyone know what the news is. Thank you again for thinking of me. I hope you are doing well.

    Hi Everyone--

Just a quick update to let everyone know that my doc's nurse just called me and the biopsy report came back negative! I am so relieved. I will see her next Thursday so she can check my rear end after the surgery. Thank you to all of you who gave me encouragement, support and prayers--obviously, it worked!

    anal warts
As I've not been in for my check up yet, now I know to ask hm to please check these out. I thought it was a reaction to the radiation, but they itch and burn like crazy. Please let me know what your doc says so maybe I'll have a better idea of what to ask him. Thnaks, Melodie

    Hi Melodie!
I hope you are doing well and you're feeling better as each day passes. My anal warts were caused by HPV, but I don't know what strain. I would advise anyone who has been treated for anal cancer to talk to their doctor about this issue. Mine apparently were not there in June when I had my colonoscopy, yet they were there when I was examined by anoscopy in early September. It would be smart, in my opinion, to bring this up with our doctors during each visit so they are reminded to check us out thoroughly for any evidence of warts.

So happy to hear the good news. What a relief!

As for HPV. I was tested when diagonosed and came out negative. OBGYN tested and came out negative. I honestly do not fit the profile of the other things except being a former smoker.

I'm baffled. But I know HPV can be dormant and then show up.

I still think there is something else out there causing anal cancer. Just using logic. The world is full of smokers. Millions of them. Male homsexual intercourse would result in a lot more cases if that type of intercourse were truly a root cause. I'm glad it doesn't, just saying logically it would.

That leaves HPV and I believe something else that is not known yet.

All I can say is that I thank God everyday that this type of cancer has a high cure rate.
