BP Question

Hi all! Nine months out - scope was clean. Going for PET at Mt Sinai in August.
Has anyone have trouble with LOW blood pressure? Last two weeks pressure running 80/50. Dr advised to add a lot of salt to foods, otherwise I will need medication which of course I do not want. I have enough trouble eating w/o adding salt to my food! Yuck!
But, okay...let me not start whining! Hee Hee. Have lost 20-25 lbs.
Is it just me, lack of nutrition, or another side effect to add to my list? You are all in my prayers. Thanks! Patty

    Yep, lowered blood pressure here
    Hi Pattyanny

I'm down 20-25 pounds from my pre-treatment weight. Blood pressure is significantly lower than before, and often times measures in the rate you have quoted above. Nobody has told me that is a problem, though. Used to be 135 or 125 over 95 or so. Now is typically 85 to 90 over 60 or thereabouts. I don't believe the addition of salt to the diet causes an increase in blood pressure in all individuals. It's my understanding it only causes the increase in certain susceptible individuals. Was your doctor possibly joking?

    Hi Deb and Patty,

Just read your posts and thought that I would research alittle before replying. Actually, the Doctor was right, because we loose allot of weight and we don't get enough nutrition during treatments and recovery periods, we can become anemic.

Part of what I read from a site I found is this----A cause of low blood pressure is malnutrition. Malnutrition can result from a diet deficient in calories, proteins, vitamin C, or almost any one of the B vitamins.----

One treatment is this-----The use of salt is valuable in low blood pressure. Until the blood pressure reaches normal levels through proper dietary and other remedies, it is essential that the patient should take salty foods and half a teaspoon of salt in water daily.

Here is the site I found the information on -----

    Hi Patty
Low BP is a side affect of radiation, it affects the Carotid sinus in the neck. My BP goes from 130/85 to 81/42 it gets to where I can’t stand up. Take a look at the web site below.

    Hi Hondo
Just great! (Ugh) I have read your diet recommendations, but as you can see I am in need of 3000-4000 calories a day. I hope to work up to your recommendations when healthy enough, and thank you for that. I will check out the website.
I can always depend on you Hondo!
Hope your vacation went well. Blessings! Patty

    Thanks Marine,
I also read "Emotional Instability" can cause low BP. I lost my FIL 2 weeks ago, and my 19 year old son was beaten up pretty severely on 6/27. I guess combined with my nutrition - that explains it. I appreciate the website very much. Now I have to do something about it!
    Wishing you good health! Patty
