Liver resection

Hi All,

I had my appointment with a surgical oncologist Friday. I guess the good news is that I am definitely a candidate for surgery. He will be removing most, if not all of the left lobe. Unfortunately, he is going away on vacation for two weeks, but will schedule a date shortly after he returns. I'm very anxious to have it done, but in the meantime I need to have a few more tests (MRI of liver, colonoscopy).

    Surgery
My surgery is scheduled for Aug 16th. I feel a little better knowing it will be taken care of soon. Interesting information from the surgical oncologist - he believes the cancer has been in my liver since the diagnosis last year, just not detectable until now.

    Hi Lisa--
    I'm glad you now

    Hi Lisa--

I'm glad you now have your surgery scheduled. I know you are anxious to get this done and over with. Wow, that is very interesting that you may have had cancer there for quite some time--and a little scary too. Thank goodness it has been found and that you can get the surgery done. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope you'll keep us posted.

    Hi Lisa,

I am glad you have a surgery date, and you will have the cancer removed soon. I know you just want to have it out now. Does your dr have any suggestions as to what to eat or drink, in helping you prepare for surgery, so you will be in the best shape possible? Just curious, if they recommend anything specific to prepare. I wish you well, and I will be praying that your time waiting will go by fast. Lori

    Surgery
    Thanks everyone for your support,

Since my dx, I eat only organic fruits and vegetables and locally raised, hormone & antibiotic free chicken and eggs. I want to do whatever I can to be healthy again. I run every day - the doctor did say that I am in very good shape and that will definitely help me get through this and make recovery easier.

    scheduled surgery
    Hi, Lisa,

No question it is good to have a date to hold on to. Did you have a PET scan at the time of your diagnosis? Was it full body? Mine was skull to thigh and they tell me it would have showed up other "hot spots". I forget when you got your diagnosis but I certainly hope this is the last time you have to deal with mets.

Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers over these next few weeks.

Yes, I did have a full body PET scan at the time of my diagnosis last May. Thanks for your support.

    Best wishes on upcoming surgery
    Hi Lisa,
That is a good sign that your doctor says you are in good shape. That will be a big asset in your recovery from surgery.
