can't do exercise due to elevated pulse rate at rest. Been on chemo since March.....symptons continue to change of course. Last week mentioned to Dr. concern with high at rest pulse rate, making it not possible for me to do exercise. When at full rest I range 86-124. The slightest activity raises it....just wiping down a table top brings it up. BP is within normal ranges. Dr. said it is a side effect from one of the chemo drugs (on ACT)....and when/if the rate is 100+ consistantly he will then give me beta blockers. Anyone else have this issue? I really wanted to start doing some strength enercises since I am feeling weak and getting fatter by the day!

    hign heart rate also
21 yrs ago I was treated w/radiation in the mantle region for Hodgkins Lymphoma. 17 yrs ago I was treated w/ABVD chemo for a recurrence. 100% of Hodgkins survivors that had radiation and or Adriomycin have elevated heart rates. Exercise and being fit can not lower it. Mine is between 90 and 125 at rest. If it gets to a point that it bothers me, I can try a low dose of a beta blocker.
PS: the radiation caused my BC dx too in 2008

I'm sorry to butt in like this .. but I get sooooo angry
just hearing about high pulse rates, blood pressure or heart palpitations during and after our chemo cocktails. Many of us, are to fatigued to exercise, or move - some women can not finish chemo treatment due to these various drugs feed to us. Long term effects - only our Lord knows.

    My blood pressure gets high
My blood pressure gets high every now and then, but, I have meds to take for it. I also take my blood pressure daily at home and keep a record for my doctor.

    Adriamycin did me in....
I actually refused the last one, because my heart had become so erratic...

That said, I am, 4 years later, back to 'normal'. I had a cardiologist take a peek, and he gave my heart an 'A'!!!!!

I don't know if this helps, but this was my experience...I had been on oxyiliplatin for my rectal cancer 6 month's earlier, and that is know for heart damage, so I was already sensitized. Can they do a (help me ladies) EEG (or is it EKG?)? I had a 24-hour Holter montior done.

BUT, I did ''low impact" stretching...
in our jacuzzi....this helped ALOT with arm muscle strength! And the water cushioned my cardiac involvement, still giving me resistance.

    thanks Kathi
that makes me feel better....knowing I am not alone and it will change. Great idea...I have a pool and could do some exercise there....just feel yucky sitting all day all night...I will continue to monitor rates, just don't want anything else thrown into this mix!
