HELLO,
I am a 41 year old mother of two small children diagnosed with Stage 3/4 on April 20th. I recently underwent a dose of cisplatin & doestaxol and I'm scheduled to see the Radiation Oncologist for chemo/radiation treatment. I am terrified of the chemo/radiation and subsequent side effects which seem endless. Has anyone tried fighting this cancer unconventionally?

    Hi Victoria
Sorry to hear about you having this NPC cancer but I am glad to have you here with us on CSN. There are about 8 of us here all with the same cancer. I am about 5 years passed my last treatment of chemo and radiation. One good thing about NPC it is curable so don’t let it frighten you. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing our job as survivors is to help you also become a survivor.

    Take care

    Hi Victoria,

I had surgery, mild chemo and radiation for SCC of left tonsil starting in August 2009. I have since made many changes in my life as I figure I was doing something wrong to get the cancer in the first place so I am making every effort to not do what I was doing before. Please go to my Profile (Click on my name to the left <<<< and go to my Expressions Page for more details).

In brief I have changed my diet and am using a number of supplements to help restore my immune system and general well being. I am just over 7 months out of Tx now and feel fantastic. Removing foods that are generally known to increase the risk of you getting cancer and progressing it - and only eating foods that are good for you, can only be positive. Sorting out your nutrition properly will give any attempt of recovery from this horrible disease a better chance. I worked with (and still do) Naturopaths throughout my treatment and believe the complimentary treatmenst were of great benefit.

    PM me for more input.

    Scambuster,
    Thank you so

    Scambuster,
Thank you so much for responding. I was beginning to think I was losing my mind. I've been up all night and finished reading another book (which by the way, mentioned "The China Study"). I had one dose of the chemo treatment on May 6th and today I'm scheduled to see a Radiologist Oncologist to discuss the radiation portion. I have another appointment with a naturopath who specializes in Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT)tomorrow and I think I'm going to see if this is a viable option (unfortunately, non of the naturopaths accept any type of insurance). Thanks for pointing out the profile portion, I'll be sure to update that and please stay in contact. Thank you so much. A friend from NY. Victoria

Good morning Hondo, thank you for responding. I think I sent you an email, I really didn't understand how this chat board worked. In any event, I was curious what type of herbs you are taking? I'm really terrified of the radiation since I have already lost 5 lbs since last week alone (I'm only 120 lbs. Any information will be greatly appreciated. So many of your posts have already given me so much inspirations. Thank you from NY. Victoria

    NPC
As Scam suggested, you can click on my Profile to get the basics pertaining to me.

You can survive this, Victoria. Hondo started a NPC thread some time ago, and you may wanna search for it. There's a number of us. As you may gather from reading, survival is pretty-much a certainty, but so is the physical experience- which your Drs. will help you with via meds. Don't hesitate to let them know how you are physically doing. Sorry to hear of this thing being dealt to you- but don't for a minute think you won't survive it- know you will, and keep that Positive fact always in mind. I returned to work a month after my last rad, and that was a little over a year ago. You'll be okay.

Please keep us informed. And, Victoria, if you wanna survive this okay, you will. All you gotta do is

    Believe

    NPC Treatment
    Hi, Victoria:

I know that the chemo and radiation is tough, but all the survivors on this board have received similar treatment. We have survived! I completed my last treatment March 2004. I'm not sure that there are any survivors here who had the alternative methods. The radiation/chemo seems to be the proven method. I've already had the cyberknife treatment which is becoming more popular in this area. Several local hospitals are advertising their cyberknife centers.

If you're afraid of losing too much weight, use the Peg tube as others have. Stay positive. Ask for help. It'll be a tough six months. You can do it!

    Experience with IPT ?
Hello, I hope that you found a treatment that suited you. I was wondering what were your thoughts/experience with IPT. My mom has stage 4 breast cancer and is considering doing an IPT treatment, so I am looking for feedback on experience with it. Warm regards.
