    Another Food Channel Watcher Here..!!
    John,

Funny thing how that seems to NOW be my husband's favority channel..He would not have spent one minute watching a "cooking show" EVER before his cancer..I too, have put hours of food channel shows on his DVR...Sounds like the same lineup..:) ..I also recorded Throwdown with Bobby Flay..

Take care...I just wanted you to know you were NOT alone when it came to the food channel...Perhaps you are "eating vicariously" through watching?...(just psychological babble here...lol

What really got to me during my treatment at Johns Hopkins was watching "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." One of the places he featured was only about two miles from where I got my chemo and rads, a place called Chaps Pit Beef. We drove past it often and I looked at it with longing, knowing it would be awhile before I could ever eat anything like that.
Nowadays, when I go back to Hopkins for a routine checkup I sometimes stop at Chaps and chow down.
It tastes that much sweeter now.

    Food Heroes
    Guilty !

Watched nearly all food shows till I actually started to dislike the presenters because they repeat the same comments sooooo often. I think Kylie Kwong used the same 5 ingredient in every recipe with the same description on what each 'drizzle would do'.

I suppose there are only so many ways you can demonstrate and describe that 'unbelievable, moist, tasty, delicious, incredible, flavorsome, tender...... mouth full of luscious...... well everything." {all of which I couldn't eat).

Gary Rhodes must have had orgasms (sorry) after each bite he took ! I had to stop watching his series (Food Heroes). Nigella was great for a while with those lingering sideways looks as she seductively, popped great dollops of whipped cream into her mouth..... sorry I digress, food channel wasn't it ?.

Hey, I still watch them and enjoy the memories. For me, it's like watching a travel show about places you have been to. It doesn't always mean you want or need to jump on a plane and go back to do it again, but I am happy and very satisfied to have made those journeys.

    Good thread John.

It's funny you should mention the Food Channel. This is all my husband will watch.....as he eats oatmeal! LOL He says it gives him hope that one day he will be able to eat all this stuff again. He used to be a Chef so he is always looking for new ideas..... maybe someday!!!

That's funny John! I'm sure I can remember months ago, when I was going through the same thing, sore throat, no taste buds etc....that you had posted the same comment!! Can you enjoy food now? I sure can! lol!! Food does still get stuck in my throat sometimes...but I was told that will probably continue to happen for up to a year:)

    Take care;

I watched and made lists of what I wanted to eat and places I wanted to eat after I was done with treatment. I must have watched probably a good 10 hours a day just dreaming of the day of eating these things again. I still watch some, but not as much and I'm eating almost anything I want, a few things are more different than others but I try if I really want it.

    Hi Sash!
I haven't been on the discussion board for a while either. Glad you are feeling well!!!!:D

    Hondo, Fishingirl and all....
LOL, yes I do kow a few good places to eat, and my BBQ skills have increased as a result of all of the Food Channel Best BBQ shows that I have watched.... I even watched a Best Sandwhich Cook-Off once...LOL.

Yes taste has come back quite nicely as has saliva production... Occasionally I need to take a sip or so extra than I didn't pre-radiation. But It's nothing compared to when I needed to sip water with every bite of food.

Probably the worst was when I was at my worst taking meds just to consume Ensure Plus and water, and even the water tasted nasty...it tasted like sweat, yuck...that was really bas as water has always been about the only thing that really quenches my thirst.

Glas that it's come back to the great taste that it had pre-rads.
