I got the OK from my ENT on my Friday visit to get my tube removed. They want to keep the port in for a while until I get some more clear scans under my belt, but I go Monday to the surgeon to set up getting my tube out. WOO HOO!! My last radiation treatment was on December 17th, to give you guys some time frame.

Love you all,

GRAVEY

If your tube removal was anything like mine you wont need a surgeon. I dont know but the doc came in and just ask me if I was here to get my tube removed. Dont mean to scare you -:) but just took a hold of it and you guessed it-:) I laughed until I cried it hurt so bad. The tylenol 3 helped. I wish my port could have stayed in longer it got infected after two months.
    Good luck & Best wishes

I am happy to hear that the doctors think you are doing well enough to remove the PEG that will be one less thing for you to worry about.

    Take care my friend

    Congratulations!!
Congrats on getting the okay to get your tube out. I can remember how excited I was, it is a feeling of relief and success, it meant I was finally on the road to recovery without the aggravation of the tube.

    Stay strong and keep smiling,

Hope to get mine out within a month, Gravey. We might have different PEGs, but I would be interested in if you were told anything about the post-pulling? A stitch or two might be in play, but others have said it wasn't. A compression bandage, and nothing to eat or drink for 4-hours, are also said to be in play.

Seems to me, with the biological physics involved, which includes gravity, one should just try to lay on one's back for a couple hours, so that the area between the stomach and abdomen skin doesn't have to deal with any stomach contents. Make sense to you?

Keep me informed on how the extraction goes.

    Tube out
I asked the doc for a bullet to bite on when they pulled the tube out. He didn't have one available but did offer me a stick.

    Wow, they really dont do
Wow, they really dont do anything but pull it out of you? I thought it was attached to your intestine or something?! Seems like there would be some type of surgery involved, especially to close the hole where the tube connected with your insides!!!! Hope it's not so bad, and I'll let you guys know how it went.......

    Yes
Yes, they just yank it out, Gravey- that's what I hear. The tube's attached to the inside of the stomach wall. Mine has a button holding it in place against that wall, with the button having a larger diameter than the tube. When they pull it, the outer edges of the button collapse inwards as the tube and it's button are extracted. Yeah, I know- sounds like fun. Can't wait? Not. Personally, I hope they put a stitch or two in to help seal it from any exposure problems on the outside. Kinda wish I still had some Morph, you know. But, we all remember the bad times, and this is just another step on the path to be done with it.

    Easy out
My nutrientionist pulled mine out for me in the clinic. She deflated the end and pulled. Felt like a bee sting. She did have a towel handy because sometimes fluid will come out mine did not leak much. I kept it bandaged for a couple days till it stopped leaking. I have not missed it one bit. Good luck and I hope you heal quickly.

yep! they just pull and done!
    according to my boyfriend anyway.
(cant be much worse than having a drainage tube pulled out like I did when I had my elective
tummy surgery done. For that, there is nothing like them telling you they are giving you a tiny injection for the pain, in order to put out the drain tube, which I swore was 1/2 mile long inside me!! :) The description in size is directly proportionate to the amount of pain felt when pulled out!!)

anyway, I dont suspect the tube is any worse.

After they removed mine as mentioned above. I was bandaged up for the day, no stitches or anything. I was able to drink eat etc immediately after. My sister in law who is also a cancer nurse said they let them heal from the inside out. I cant even see where my tube had been. Best Wishes

Okay, so I arrived at my
Okay, so I arrived at my appt today not really knowing what to expect, until the doc asked me if I had had anything to eat today, all I had was an ensure plus at about 7:00 am this morning, I still drink one in the morning in leux of breakfast. He said he wasnt worried about that, and that the tube could come out today. I got excited, then I realized he wasnt going to give me any kind of anything for pain, and was going to rip it out. I had a balloon style peg, I had to ports on it, and one that was marked balloon. I think he attached a 60 cc syringe to the one that was marked balloon. I wasnt watching. He made a comment to the P.A. that was with him that he usually puts in about ten in there, Im assuming he meant ccs of air in the balloon, and that usually there is about 9 left in there as he pulled the syringe back to extract the air. Then, YANK!!!! OW SHITTTTT!!!!! Then, it was over, pain only lasted momentarily, and he put a 2x2 with some antiseptic on it over the hole, then a compression bandage on top of that to hold it in place. He said not to eat any solids for the rest of the day, suck because all Ive had to eat is the Ensure, but he said usually if someone accidentally pulled their tube out, that in 6 to 8 hours if they hadnt gotten one put back in by then, that he usually couldnt get one back in the hole because it would have closed up by then.

But that was it, hope this helps you guys.

    GRAVEY, and the saga continues.......
