2nd opinion on biobsy results

Hi Has anyone requested that their biopsy results be interpreted by a second pathologist, if so did the results differ?

    2nd opinion
    Interpreting the biopsy is pretty complicated and there are experts in the field who do a better job.........i've had a second opinion which confirmed my results....i am not in doubt.........

    I also had a second opinion done by another pathologist. Results were the same. It is a good idea to have it done though, from a peace of mind perspective.

    It is always a good idea
    Having a second opinion done on biopsy is always a good idea and should be a part of the due diligence that we all do as we plan our path for treatment.

    No doctor or pathologist should ever be upset because we ask for a second opinion. I am an active member on another PCa forum and this is a common and constant topic of conversation. Each time there are a few pathologists that are mentioned as the top in the field of reading biopsy slides. I will visit there and come back with some of their names.

    I have seen occasions where the results have changed to a degree, but never to the point that would dramatically change the course of the treatment options or plans.

    Prostate Cancer is fickle to say the least and each of us responds differently in our attempts to rid ourselves of it.

    That being said, it is my firm belief that each step of the journey should be open to evaluation and second opinions, be it the pathology, the doctor or the method of treatment.

    The bottom line is that we all must be supremely confident in the path we choose and the people we choose to make the journey with.

    Mine changed pretty much
    I went to the best education surgeon here in Indy and had their lab read the results again and found a dramatically different viewpoint....I had 3 positives that were all graded by the first lab:

    3+3=6 50%
    3+3=6 10%
    3+3=6 10% T

    The educational lab (pathologist trained under Bostwic...renowned prostate sample lab in U.S. got much different results:

    4+3=7 5%
    3+4=7 10%
    3+4=7 10%

    Post op the results changed yet again: (most accurate result is always post op)
    Gleason: Changed to (3+4) = 7
    Primary Pattern 3, 80%
    Secondary Pattern 4, 18%
    Tertiary Pattern 5, 2%

    I would always recomend getting a second lab to look at the slides/samples from the Biopsy
