Does anyone have scar tissue or lumps under their lumpectomy scar?

I have noticed that I have one lump under my lumpectomy scar. It might have been there for awhile and I just didn't notice it. Is it probably just scar tissue? Do the rest of you have any scar tissue or are your incisions free of it?

    Yes...
I have scar tissue at both sites - lumpectomy and underarm (nodes removed there) incisions. And scar tissue can continue to change/develop for quite some time after surgery. Which can, of course, cause worry. My own "invasive" treatment was surgery, chemo & rads. Radiation also causes changes in the tissues. After all of that was done (over 5 years ago), it was at least a year before my breast became what it remains today.

In general, some folks simply heal better (less scarring) than others. And some develop more. We're all different...

Be sure to point out your concerns to your doctor at your next follow up appointment.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Thanks Susan
I am not glad that you have scar tissue, but, it was worrying me, so, it was good to see that it isn't just me. The only surgery I have ever had was the lumpectomy and my plastic surgeon never really mentioned scar tissue. I did have radiation this fall too. Does massage or anything help it to go away? I will bring it up to my doctor as it does worry me. Thank you.

Some lumps developed in the area of my mastectomy scar. My surgeon removed them and they were benign (scar tissue). It's good to have it checked out. xoxoxox Lynn

    So
should I have this lump removed? Or, just leave it in and keep an eye on it? I will tell my doctor, but, should I call him like this week or something? Thanks Lynn.

Leeza, If it is bothering you, call, so you can set your mind at rest. You will get the best information from your doctor. I am sorry that you are worried about this. My lumps were very tiny, much smaller than a pea. xoxoxo Lynn

    So, you have some scar
So, you have some scar tissue lumps too Kat? And, your surgeon just said to leave them alone? Not have them removed? And, if he said they might change, maybe, this lump will go away. Maybe I should try to get in to see my surgeon too. I hate to be acting like a baby, but, I just keep feeling it now that I have found it and it worried me.

    Leeza, I also have lumps
Leeza, I also have lumps near my scar. My surgeon said she moved a lot of tissue around in there the make me more even. I've been told it takes a year after treatment for you breast to calm down and be your new normal.

As we've all said everyone is different so I think you should call your doctor so you can be sure and put your mind at ease.

I will let you know Megan what I find out. I called my doctor and the nurse will call me back. It is probably normal, but, it just scares me to have even one small lump.

Hi Sher. I wish none of us had these lumps because they are scary. I did call my doctor and the nurse just called back with an appointment. I see him this Thursday. Hopefully, this will get me some relief.

    Scar tissue?
I had a lumpectomy in April then radiation which ended in July. I also have a couple of lumps which my oncologist says are scar tissue; she said some people just develop more than others. I see the surgeon next week and will bring it up with him, too. As far as massage helping, my onc. says yes, it's a good thing. The first time the massage therapist worked on it, I was sore for 3 days. So she's been easier on it since then and it definitely has helped loosen up the scar tissue.

I'd mentioned to the onc. that I seemed to have less flexibility in the arm when stretching up to the top cupboard shelf, etc., again that "some people do have more problems", i.e., we're all different! She also said that I'd probably have to continue to do stretching exercises for my arm/chest the rest of my life (i'd gotten away from the habit).

Leeza, do let us know what your doctor says when you see him.

    Leeza ♥
Be sure and let us know what you find out Thursday. I bet it is scar tissue. Usually a surgeon can remove it for you if you want, but, it can also come back from what I have been told. Try to relax and think good positive thoughts as we are all praying for you!

    Me too
I have a lump, feels like a small pea, pretty deep (I have an implant) under my mastectomy scar. I have made my surgeon check it four times in the last 9 months. He says he's sure it's a suture scar. I am trusting his judgment but I check the lump each week to make sure it isn't getting bigger. I feel better to know that others have benign lumps too. Do have it checked.

    Leeza, I think that most
Leeza, I think that most people do have some sort of scar tissue or lump with almost any incision and probably especially with a lumpectomy as they have to take out tissue and there is a void. Let us know what your doc says. Good luck.

    I just found one...
Hi, I was reading this thread because I just found a knot in my lumpectomy scar. Going to the surgeon to have it looked at today after showing it to my onc. Sort of nervous...thanks for posting your own issues with this!
