Nausea

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the board. I am a 35 years old and have been a survivor for 3 years.

I did not smoke, drink, etc. and had an advanced stage (I think 3) EC. I went through chemo, radiation, and finally an esophagectomy in Dec. 2006.

I still suffer from nausea and cannot eat very much at a time. I do take Tygan and Nortriptalyne for the nausea. It helps.

I have a j-tube, and suspect I will keep it indefinitely.

Any suggestions for other nausea meds???? I cannot tolerate reglan or compezene.

Thanks,

David White

Hi David! Welcome to this site. I do not have any ideas for you regarding your anti-nausea med's. My hubby just had surgery on the 16th, and due to a leak in the connection, he cannot have anything by mouth until it heals. He doesn't complain of nausea, yet, but does have diarrhea - most likely from the liquid diet.
I'm sorry to hear you are having such difficulties. Just know I have added you to my prayer list.
    Nice to meet you, Shelly

    Hi David and Welcome!
Hi David and Welcome! Congrats on being a survivor. My dad had EC stage 4 November 2008. He beat that, and now has lesions on his liver. Alas the next chapter in fighting this cancer!! As far as the nausea is concerned, when dad does have it, his drs prescribed promethazine. Spelling? This works great. As well as the good ol tried and true...ginger ale. Good luck and keep fighting!

    Nausea
    Hi Shelly,

I had a leak in the connection at first, as well. It will pass. I too had diarrhea at first. Also, I have it off and on again with the tube feed. Overall, the diarrhea subsides.

I will pray for you and your husband too!! Please do keep in touch.

    Hi David
Nice to meet you. My husband Al had his esophagectomy Oct.19th 09. The oldies but goodies work best for him. Compazine 10 mg along with some Ativan and good Old Gas X works for him.
We start with the compazine give it about 20 min. then the gas x, if all else fails about
1 hr later he gets antivan we ususally don't have to go that far but so far it has worked for us.

Also marie could be right they still sell good old cola syrup at the pharmacy. We have found that the older more proven meds work best for us and also are less expensive.

    Good Luck
    God Bless,
    Kath
