My husband has stage four cancer and today when he tried to eat breakfast, he got sick and immediately got the hiccups and they have lasted all day. Can someone explain to me why these patients always get the hiccups and is there something I can give him to stop them. Every time he tries to drink something, they start right up again?

Hello. I have heard of this
Hello. I have heard of this before. It has to do with his esophagus. It is having spasms. Give him some carbonated soda. Is this where his cancer is? He can have a scope done to see what is going on in his esophagus. My dad is an ec survivor, but now it has spread to his liver. This is a long, tuff, road to travel. Keep it up, keep your faith. Keep us posted.

thanks for replying about our situation
yes, he has esophageal cancer, stage four, I will try doing the carbonated soda and see if this helps. How long has your dad had ec? what stage was it and did he do chemo or surgery? Did you just find out it spread to his liver?

    hiccups
Hi, yes I have given him carbonated soda, he has stage four and it seemed to go away today. He does get them alot when he is trying to eat but our doctor says it is his brain telling his stomach that some food is coming and then he cannot get it down and that is when the hiccups start. thanks for responding, I appreciate it. Linda He has had a scope done and there is really nothing going on other than the fact he has that tumor there, he is doing chemo right now so hopefully this will shrink it. Linda
