ok 5 weeks after my last chemo, I seen new hair growth, where? not my eyebrows, not my eye lashes, not my hair or even legs, I got my MUSTACHE back!!! bold black hairs coming back on my upper lip!
ok why why :0
hoping that my eyebrows and eyelashes come back and of course the head!
still waiting to get an ultrasound , the docs at U of M found a cyst that may be the cause of the pain I am having in my abdomen . so hurry up and wait again , at least someone is hearing me and believing me that I have pain.

    Annoying isn't it
I don't know why those unwanted facial hairs come back first. It is most annoying. I'm still trying to grow hair on my head and have already got the dreaded facial hair. Doesn't seem fair, does it?

    LOL
Not really a funny subject, my I remember my HORROR at looking in the mirror (while on vacation no less) and seeing what looked like a werewolf in the mirror!!! A quick visit to Sally Supply was in order. I actually preferred bald to that look.

    Hair regrowth and pain
about 4 weeks after last chemo (August 27th)I had new facial hair growth much like that of newborn babys face (almost downy like), then sprouts of eyelashes at 6 weeks followed by eyebrows. I now have a very think (groucho mark like) set of brows and yes a dark mustach! I have talked myself into a brow and stash wax 2 times, but chickened out at the salon, I was impressed at how easily I was able to convince myself that all the new facial hair was a nice change and was actually attractive on me.
My hair on my head began to sprout at 6 or 8 weeks and now is 1/2 inch long, very thick and dark with lots of "graylights". I wore the free wig from ACS, just ordered a new one (dark blonde and trendy cut) I LOVE it and I look 10 years younger, wish I had done this sooner. Brow wax def this weekend to go with my new hair style!!!
During the chemo, my skin looked glorious, the loss of hair agreed with it, now I have little dots everywhere (except face), slightly irritated looking. I dont mind the wig and def did not miss shaving for all those months. Looking at the silver lining, I guess.
I had minor pain during chemo, felt it was more from the daily nuprogen injections follwing each round of chemo, same with nausea, very mild. Some numbness in feet and hands
I still experience foot pain, mostly in the bones of my heels and balls of feet.
I have mild ringing in my ears frequently and numbness in inner thighs(probably from lymph node removal???) I have noticed a change in my vision, I wear glasses and think I need a new script, was told to wait 3 months after chemo/radaition to let changes settle, has anyone expeienced one or more of these symptoms?

    Me too!
I had the downy fuzz on my face too, that is gone now (finished chemo the first week of June). And changes in vision... minor except that now I have to use reading glasses. The eye doctor said this could be unrelated to the chemo and just the natural aging of the eyes. I turned 40 this year, but I had Lasik about 10 years ago, so I think maybe we are still learning about the longterm effects of Lasik.
I had basically the same side effects from the chemo that you had and often believed that it was more related to the neupogen as the pain did not come until after I received it.
I am not happy that you have foot pain, but glad that you shared it. I too having been having discomfort in my feet. I have mild numbness in the bottoms of my feet (feels like the floor is buzzing) when I am on them alot, but after sitting for just a short amount of time, my feet ache. I feel like an old woman when I get up to walk as it takes several steps to "walk it off."
I sometimes have this feeling in my left ear, as if someone is tickling it with a feather. Just when I think it will make me crazy, it goes away?!
Any way, just sharing a few strange things I have noticed since chemo...

My neuropathy is not quite as bad 10 months post chemo. My vision changed too - got better! Maybe not related but seemed odd to me. And the werewolf hairdo!

    the hair saga continues
ok not complaining , much more could be happening , but the 5 eye lash hairs on one eye and the 3 on the other , fell out, I have slight new hairs coming in, the eyebrow hairs that were there through heavy face washing and showers , disapeared during my shower tonight, no eyebrows at all now, the faint hair that I have had through scrubbing my head and making sure all hair that was going to fall out did, tonight I had a large amount of hair in the drain! and have very very little hair now,
what is going on? it stuck through thick and thin for 3 months, not a hair fell out (after the initial exodus of my hair) now all my clothes have hair all over them, looks like the days I started loosing my hair,
any one else have this happen? who did not shave their head ? is all my hair going to fall out before the new ones come in?
more important things happening in my abdomen , they cant figure what is hurting , dont think the cyst is the problem but are thinking of doing a biopsy of it , will know more on monday, so this is keeping me laughing and crying , I wanted to not shave my head , thinking that if I can see hair on my head I will not feel sick, and it has worked, now my near white hair on my head, I think I can actually count the hairs on my head,!
sooooooo any one else got this happening,
gonna take one more plc of myself before it comes back in : )
now to take pain pills and go to bed,

Since you are going to your doc this week, please carefully take notes of the pain. I am always concerned that taking pain meds MASKS the pain - and, hence, the info that a doc may need to make an accurate diagnosis and treatment. While, I'm not saying DON'T take the pain meds, I guess I am saying take with caution so you don't miss something important that your very good doc needs to know on TUESDAY!!

    pain
well it is still up in the air as to if I am going to Dr Liu, it is up to the gov health care,
I am not taking meds for pain, as it doesnt work so would rather not take them then try to stop the pain and not have anything happen..
the pain comes and goes as I move through the day. my gen doc said oh it is slight pain so no worries, oh yea if you are not the one with the "slight pain" that turned into more pain, and then a kick in the pants pain, when I move certain ways , Dr Liu has been keeping with this, when every one else has passed it off as oh that is not that bad dont worry about it,
now "not worrying about it" it has got worse.
if I have to go back to my gen doc they will not know what to look for . they are not cancer specialists , and all they are looking at is the cyst, which Dr Liu says should not be the problem and yes there must be something else there causing the problem.
sooooooooooooooooooooo on goes the medicade rules .

about the hair woke up this morning after shower, pillow covered with hair, down to very few on my head, and still falling out, now I look bad. :(

6 days past 1st recurrance taxol: hair hanging in there but dull
I'm curious to see how long my hair will hang on this time, with the weaker dose of weekly taxol. I get my 2nd infusion Monday. My hair is all hanging on but it has lost most of its shine. I cancelled the hair appointment I'd made to have it shaped up and colored again, figuring 'what's the use?' and now it is especially unruly, curling up over my ears and sticking up in wierd places. And the gray roots will be showing soon. But I still am not in a hurry to return to my futile attempts to be 'bald-and-beautiful.' I am washing my hair soooo gently now and patting it into place instead of giving it a good brushing. I remember that this strategy only works for so long, but I'll stick with it until my head starts burning & itching and then I'll yank it all out. I'll keep you all posted and plan to resurrect my baldy photo to use here again. I am thinking of geetting a pale blue page-boy wig this time around!

    Hair Comparison
    Hi, Cathy!

My 6th (and last) chemo (carbo/taxol) was in early October.
First my mustache and chin hair started to grow.
    Next were my eyebrows.
Then the hair started to grow on my head.
Finally the eyelashes have started to grow.
I'm still waiting for the pubic hair . . .

As you can see in my updated photo, Maggie's hair and eyelashes are longer than mine, but I'm the winner in eyebrows.

Our entire family is a winner with our granddaughter Maggie in our midst!

    Your pain
Some women get pain all over the abdomen after chemo. My gyn Onc told me that it was from the cells sheeding inside (the healthy ones and cancerous ones). With each chemo about six days afterward I felt sore all over the abdomen. I cannot diagnose you but you need to watch it. I didn't take pain pills during the day but after the last few chemo's I'd get so sore that I would take pain pills at night so I could sleep. I think that is OK. Keep intouch with your Doctor about the pain. Try to describe it in as much detail as you can when you talk to him.

Regarding hair, I just shaved mine all off at one time and switched to the wig. This time I found a wig that is made for chemo patients and found it be very comfortable. Summer time is the hard time to wear it. Alot of gals love scarves or the bald look. When I had breast I had hotflashes so did the bare head at home. This time I liked my cute wigs and I think it gave my hubby a small sense of normalcy while he was caring for me since that taxol whips me. I looked at it as a challenge; trying to fix myself up in new ways. at home alone I loved just being bald.

When I had breast cancer the first four inches of my hair was that curly fuzz. It went away after that hair was cut off. So don't think you will have chemo curls or fuzz forever!

    Hair loss stinks!
    Cathy,
I finished chemo 6 months ago and have had new eye lashes for a while. Last weekend, my eyes were itching, so I rubbed them. I looked at my hands and there were many eye lashes on my hands. These were the long normal length ones that have been back for months. There are shorter thicker eyelashes in their place. Almost like I am molting! lol
I hope that your hair grows back soon and fast!

    Post Chemo Changes
My gyn Onc told me the foot pain (neuropathy) is worse at four months post chemo, and the worst time is four to six months post chemo. This is a delayed reaction from carboplatinum. I had chemo before and it is cumulative in causing neuropathy so I have more than most of you gals. I take medication. I am on lyrica and a couple other meds; I noticed when I took the lyrica the ringing in my ears stopped. My Gyn Onc treats the pain until you are post the six months and then re-evaluates the pain. For some it becomes chronic especially if you had chemo before. Mine is well controlled and I can do most things but not body step. My vision got a little worse after chemo.

Enjoy your new wig. It sounds cute and I am amazed at all the cute ones that are out there now. Give your body time to heal. You are on the way!

I've been dying to know. Is that a tiger in the picture? I am sitting here with my 19 1/2 year old cat. I guess if it is not a tiger than we can safely assume my vision was changed from chemo and I better get new glasses.
