Things you wished never happened

As a male I never had to face a Gyno doctor or have a breast exam. But after having cancer my doctor decided that I should have an Ultrasound on my testicles. Of course my first thought is that it will not happen for a while and I can think about it. But no, the test is in 20 minutes. My next fear was realized when a very pretty 30ish woman came to get me for the exam. I was wondering how much worse this could get on the scale of embarrasment when we walked into the exam room and there was a 20 year old female college student doing a day of training. After going through cancer your dignity really takes a beating and this was not helping much. We got through the exam and I was glad to put this episode in life behind me. Until the next day when my daughter came home from college. Some girl in her class got to ultrasound a man's testicles, how cool. I have spent the last couple years blending into the wall at college functions parents attend. I can't wait for my daughter to finish college next month. Its ok to laugh because sometimes that is all you can do. Slickwilly

That is hilarious. Good luck with the blending into the wallpaper.

I too had an embarrassing moment last week. I went for my barium enema, the young girl handed me a gown that was too small and told me I could leave my socks on. After getting on the table and turning over "into position", she says she will be right back and I hear her go to the door and call someone in to help her cause she had made a mess. So in comes another young lady, and turns out the tech had dropped the barium bag and it was all over the floor and she needed help cleaning it up. So I'm lying on my side, my *** hanging out my little gown for the world to see and two young ladies on knelling down right next to me cleaning barium off the floor. I decided then that modesty and pride, was going to have to go out the window if I was going to get through all these tests..

    Oh dear!
Oh Slick, I am glad you said it was okay to laugh because the picture you painted did cause laughter. I do hope you don't have the misfortune of running into her again and certainly not in the presence of your daughter. The things we must endure!

    Thanks for sharing,

    Moving forward. Almost.
My daughter will be done with College before Christmas. She will have her degree in nursing. There is little doubt that my cancer had alot to do with her decision to go into nursing as she was at my first chemo treatment. She claims that she suffers from chemo brain as she was always hugging me. She read every book I was given and kept track of my diet and drugs. I never had to ask for help more than once. She is quite special and I am so proud of her. Her patients stop family members and say what a great nurse she is. She will take time to talk to them or rub their back when they are in pain. She understands that sometimes people just need a hug and to be told "everything will be ok". I am truly blessed. Slickwilly

    :-)
You most certainly are blessed, your daughter sounds like a loving caring soul.

    My best to you,

    You need to laugh
I laughed at this - thanks for posting. I'm a radiologist and I can relate to your experience from the other side of the bed. Although the college student may have been awed by the situation please be assured that the staff has "seen it all." It is unlikely that the student was staring at your face and you may take comfort in that! And, I never seemed to recognize my patients when they would come up to me to say hello in a non-hospital setting. My standard reply, so as not to be rude, was "if you were wearing a bathrobe I'd know who you are". Hope you are well.

    The robes and the glory
My husband had never had to put on one of the beaautiful robes they make you wear, and he came out into the waiting room, it was too funny! The moon was bright. He cracks me up all the time. Butt I love him!
