Let's start a memory thread-Happy memories :)
Here is one I have no doubt my husband would get mad at me for....but here goes:
When we first met I helped out at the VFW quite a bit preparing dinners for veterans etc. Halloween was approaching and they were having a costume party. Don and I discussed what we were going to be....well we decided on Sonny & Cher costumes. Homemade ones of course...I was going to be Sonny because I'm so short and he was going to be Cher. Well, let me tell ya, he went secretly into to bedroom to get into his costume that night and when he came out I laughed so darn hard I thought I was literally going to pee my pants. The only thing that looked like Cher was the long wig....but other than that he looked like a drag queen with a mustache. He didn't understand why I thought it was so funny. It truly was believe me....especially the panty hose....OMG He didn't understand how to put them on and he was FULL on runs and holes.
I myself made a very cute Sonny that night I think. Even when we arrived at the VFW he had everyone in the place just rolling on the floor. We even got up and sang the song "I Got You Babe" from the jukebox that night.
It was truly and still is.....a great memory.
Please share everyone? I think many of us here at this time could use a good laugh!

I tried to post this shortly after you posted this thread. I wanted to thank you for starting this. The night I read it was two days before my husbands memorial service which was yesterday. I was going to post something but couldn't decide what to post. My husband had a great sense of humor and we were together for 42 years. There are so many good memories, and I went to bed thinking about them. Thank you for starting this thread.
Here's one memory. My husband had surgery on his big toe. It was outpatient and went well. After the surgery I was told he was in recovery and I could see him when he was moved to a room. A few minutes later one of the nurses came out, waved me in, and said you have to see this. I didn't know what to expect. In the recovery room all eyes were on my husband. He was laying quietly in the bed. Then all of a sudden he opened his eyes, sat up, grabbed his toe and said, " Oh, my poor toe. What have you done to my toe. I'm hungry." Then his eyes rolled back. The he laid back down. This happened several times. Each time the last sentence changed. It varied but usually had something to do with food or drink. He was the hit of the recovery room. Later when I told him about it, his only comment was, "Well, I was hungry and thirsty."
It was really funny, but maybe you needed to be there to really appreciate it. Fay0 -
Happy Memory
Here is my contribution:
It was my last day of radiation treatment at MD Anderson. I was tired, and felt awful. With my mask in hand I was walking out of the treatment center. I noticed a big black Chevy truck in the valet and a gentlemen sitting in the passenger side with his door open. I then gave the attendant my ticket and began my wait for my car, so I could head home. I was feeling scared not knowing what was next, and happy that my treatments were over, but sad to leave so many people I had met that were still enduring their treatments.
As I stood there with my basket of mixed emotions, the gentlemen got out of his truck and approached me. He asked me if this was the last day of my treatment, I said yes it was. A brief moment of silence, then from no where, this kind man leaned over and gave me the best hug of my life. No words were spoken, tears filled up our eyes and he walked into the treatment center. I stood there, looked at my mom and kinda giggled and told her, its funny how god sends you exactly what you need without asking for it.0 -

Driving back and forth every day with my mother-in-law for her radiation treatment was miserable. I tried to get her talking to try and distract her from the pain of it all.
One day she began talking about how she'd like to get a nice wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun out of her eyes (she was so short that the sun visor really did not help).
On the way home I stopped at the pharmacy and found one last wide brimmed hat, a woven straw hat in bright fuscia pink.
I took it out to her and she just beamed. Before I got her out of the car I took a picture of her in it - then another picture near the door of the apartment. She had such a lovely smile. I'd rob a bank for that smile!
That was the ONLY time she wore that hat no matter how many times I suggested it on our way out the door.
It sits on the half-wall near the door along with the black slip-on shoes she always wore.

I learned very early on NOT to ever shop with my husband. They say women are bad? HUH! One day he said he needed shoes, so we went to Sears. That man was trying on EVERY pair of shoes I think they had that day. He had left his "old pair" next to the chair and was walking back and forth in his socks getting new ones to try on. Well......after the 1,000th pair he came back to try on yet "another pair" and noticed his old shoes were GONE! He started looking around and saw some strange man walking out the door in HIS shoes! LOL That is a very funny memory for me!0 -

It's not that it was funny but that I think it was very cute. My husband and I worked across the street from one another for 11 years. He worked in a store that my office needed supplies from so I would go in there all the time. I had a routine every day at work that I had to go and get the mail from the PO box for the office. This one day as I was pulling out of the parking lot to go for the mail, my husband walked over to the post office. By the time he got there, I had already gotten the mail and was getting into my car to go back to the office. He turned around and beat me back to the parking lot because I had traffic lights that I had to wait for. As I pulled into the lot and got out of my car, he walked over to me and started talking and he asked what I was doing on Saturday night. He caught me by surprise so I said I was babysitting, which I normally did. I asked him why he was asking and he invited me out to dinner. After I told him I was babysitting, he said that if things changed, to give him a call. When I went into my office I thought why not because he was a really sweet man. I then called him back and said that I was free so we went out for our first date. We were married six months later. The ironic thing is, the envelope that he was taking to be mailed was a blank envelope. I have it to this day.0 -

On our 10th wedding anniversary my husband took me to Laguna Beach for the week end. It was one of my favorite places to go. I loved walking into all the quaint little shops there and especially the jelly bean factory Smile His favorite thing to do was eating steamed clams Smile
Anyway when we arrived and were going into our room there was a HUGE bouquet of yellow roses and champaign chilling! It was just so thoughtful and romantic....I was totally stunned. Later that night when we came back from dinner he took a small package out of his pocket and gave it to me. It was a diamond ring....he said to me "After 10 years of putting up with me I thought you deserved a bigger diamond engagement ring then the one you have". Little did he know that I adored him and our lives together and the ring wasn't necessary, but it sure is beautiful!!!!!
We had so many beautiful times together but this one sure was special....and it always will be. I had his wedding ring re sized to fit me after he passed and I wear it now....right next to that 10th Anniversary ring.0 -

Michelle, your story brought tears to my eyes...your husband was a great man and I can see, after reading your stories, why you fell in love with him.
You were blessed with the few years you were together. You two shared so much love in those few years, more than many couples who have had many more years together.

Your story reminded me of a good memory. My husband didn't like wearing any jewelry. He didn't even wear a watch. When we got married he wore his wedding ring for a few years. When he started working he said he was afraid that it would catch on something. He asked if he could take his ring off. I said ok. He put it away but would occasionally put it on for special occasions. I mentioned one time that I had always wanted some jewelry made with my birthstone, alexandrite. It's a beautiful stone, but expensive. For our 40th anniversary, my husband had a ring made for me using his wedding ring and with an alexandrite stone. It is heart shaped, and I dearly love it. He enjoyed telling people that I was wearing his wedding ring now. It's a constant reminder that he is still with me. Fay0 -

I remember when my husband and I got engaged, it was December 25, 1983. I was still living at home with my parents even though I was 30. Christmas morning he came in carrying a big box and he had a white christmas tree with paper tags hanging on it. They were numbered 1 through 25. As he handed me the number I opened the corresponding gift which was also numbered. It took a while and some were only inexpensive items such as shrimp cocktail because he knew how much I loved it but couldn't not afford it that often. I think my parents thought he was a little crazy. Well we got down to number one and he pulled out the box and it was a fairly large box. As I opened it, there was one box inside of another until it came down to a small black box. When I opened it, there was my engagement ring. We had spent Christmas Eve together and he had already asked me to marry him but he said that we would go later to pick out a ring. I was very surprised when I opened the box. We were always unconventional so my engagement ring is pearls, which is my birthstone, surrounded by diamonds. It is absolutely gorgeous. My family thought it was odd that it was pearls but I told them that was what I wanted. On our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband surprised me with a diamond anniversary band. My family did not know what to say then. However, after we became engaged, we were married on Juny 22, 1984 and have been together ever since.0 -

Michelle I am so overwhelmed...my husband is still with me (barely) and I asked him the other day what his favorite memory he has of us -- well that was the wrong question since his answer was "I don't have any". I had to go approve our wedding album with the photographer last night and relived our wedding day by myself, but it is my greatest and most awesome memory0
