    Hi Laurissa, I miss your
Hi Laurissa, I miss your posts. Happy to see you are online but sorry you are having tooth pain. Hope you get the toothache taken care of. I think that as long as your blood counts are ok, the dentist can go ahead and take care of the problem. Why dont you let your oncologist know about this as well. I had my teeth cleaned and examined before I started chemo, at the suggestion of my dentist. You dont need infection in your body while going thru chemo. Please let me know how it turns out for you.:)

Yes, I had some tooth issues
Yes, I had some tooth issues during chemo. It is important to let your onc know. I was only able to get my problem taken care of the week before chemo. My counts had to be good. It's also very important that you are meticulous with your oral hygiene during chemo. I'm not suggesting that you're not but chemo does cause havoc in our mouths. If the bacteria is not kept at bay, problems arise. I hope you get your tooth taken care of with no problems.

    laurissa, I also had
laurissa, I also had problems with my teeth which began about midway through chemo. I mentioned this to my oncologist, and he really didn't have any suggestions as to what to do. Like others, I was told not to have any extensive dental work done during chemo, so the day following my last treatment, I was in the dentists office having my teeth cleaned. Several months, and many dollars later, I had three crowns replaced, peridontal work done on my gums, and even bonding between the teeth to try to relieve the pain. It turns out that the culprit was a nausea medication I was prescribed during chemo. The drug was Reglan. Please make sure you are not taking Reglan in any form (it comes in an IV drip pre-chemo to help with nausea, and also by tablet form). This drug has been related to a neurological disease called Tardive Dyskinesia, and one of the symptoms is involuntary tongue movement and oral issues. Just a warning in case you have been prescribed this drug....it can cause some really bad side effects that are permanent. Caught soon enough, you have a chance of the issues going away. Sorry to put such a bummer on this, but better safe than sorry. Hope you get better soon. Hugs. Judy

Tooth problems for me during treatment--gangrene in a tooth--missed more work with the tooth than I did for the cancer! What a nightmare!

    I didn't have chemo, but,
I didn't have chemo, but, while I was having rads, my rads oncologist did not want me to have any dental work done. But, if I absolutely had to, he said to tell my dentist that I was being zapped and to make sure he gave me some kind of antibiotics. I never realized it, but, your mouth can send an infection thru-out your whole body. YIKES!

From my first meeting with my radiation oncologist, he didn't want me to have dental work done unless it was an emergency. And, if I did have to, to get some antiobiotics. I didn't need anything done thank goodness. Hope you can get some help.

    tooth pulled
I had my tooth pulled today. After 10 shots to get it numb and 2 hours of drilling and pulling, I'm pain free. Or it might be the vicodin I'm on. My onco said it was ok to have it pulled before next week-chemo week. It was very painful and would not get numb. I guess my nerves were hiding from the anesthesia til the bitter end. But, I'm fine now.

    Biotene
I am a dental hygienist and I HIGHLY reccommend Biotene products to all my cancer patients. It helps with dry mouth from medications also. I also agree it is very important to keep your mouth very clean while going thru chemo or radiation tx. ~LM
