    My Goals
My goals for the week are:

    1. To get to bed earlier so I'm not so tired in the morning.
    2. To take my Mom to the dentist
    3. Work hard at work so the day goes fast and I can go home.
    4. Get past tomorrow.
    5. Enjoy having my Mom with me again (she will be 88 on Wednesday).
    6. Get back to the Amish Market and get some more good stuff!
    7. Get past tomorrow.
    8. Go out for dinner at least once.
    9. Watch Dancing with the Stars!

Not great goals yet, just baby steps.

    Pat

    Pat,
I am with you on numbers 1 and 3. Although so far I am not doing so great on #3. I have #8 covered. My version would read: go out to dinner only once this week. Good luck and enjoy the visit with your mom.

    Thanks for this Mimi~ I
Thanks for this Mimi~ I truly hope that writing things down and OMG(!!!) posting them in this public forum is truly Positive Peer Pressure that will spur me to actually not just THINKING about doing things good for me, but following through with them! I had another kick in the pants over the weekend...my nieces were taking snapshots all weekend long and now there is truly no denying that I weigh too much! Those pictures spoke 1000 and one words to me! So, my short and long-term goals are:

1: NO ALCOHOL Mon-Friday, and then only 2 glasses (MAXIMUM!) of wine Sat and Sunday. I am so used to relaxing in the evening with a glass or 2 of wine nightly...tasty, but so negative-calorie laden!

2: No excuses about Jazzercise~ even when my exercise buddy can't go ( which is when I usually opt out too) I am GOING!

3: I eat well, but obviously I need to use much better portion-control. Today, I start a food -journal. I bet I will be surprised at how much I eat...even with grazing.

4: Very Important for me...and my most difficult challenge will be not allowing myself to be negatively affected by Reggie's eldest; an ungracious, spoiled, demanding daughter. I need to concentrate on not allowing her to thwart my joy, and to also know that I am ultimately responsible for my own reactions.....

It will be very interesting to see how successful I am~ and I promise to be honest when this Personal Growth Challenge re-convenes! Thanks again, Mimi!

    I'm back to work
now so I need to be more focused. My goals for this week are
    1. Pack my healthy lunch and snacks the night before (I've gotten out of the routine)so I don't buy "junk".
    2. Go to bed by 9:00 (I have to get up by 5:00 to go to work)
    3. Not try to catch up on everything at work in a couple days (I was out 10 days, I should give myself enough time.
    4. Most important - if I start to feel tired at work, take a break or go home! (Already have my supervisor's permission)

    You will do it, Claudia!
I know you will do what you set your mind to. It might take a few tries, but that's OK, as long as you are moving forward and learning. I totally, totally second your #1. That's a tough one for me, too. My goal is to keep it at 4 drinks a week, maximum. I am sad to say that I have never really hit that mark. I am not happy with myself about that. Not only does it pack on the calories, but it is not good for cancer either. Last week was my best attempt, but I had the 4 drinks at once. Umm, NOT good. My problem is that I will not drink all week and then think, "Oh, it's Friday, I deserve a cocktail." Which would be fine if I only had one or two.... OK, I am re-energized. Claudia, we will do this. I have two social events this week: Wednesday and Saturday. My goal will be to keep it at 2 drinks per event and none the rest of the week.

#2: The jazzercise. Let's exercise together! If you do your jazzercise classes, I'll go to my cycling.

Remember your mantra when dealing with Reggie's daughter: stronger than not angry at. You taught me that!

    Hi Lola,
Yes, #1 is my goal, too. Sometimes if I wait till the morning, I'll run out of time and then buy junk at work. Maybe doing it right after you make dinner, while you're still in the kicthen will help? I'll try that this evening, too.

    Thanks again, Mimi~ seems we
Thanks again, Mimi~ seems we are so on the proverbial same page about alcohol! I must say, I soo enjoy the end of the day wine or cocktail. Guess what's what constitutes a sacrifice, huh? LOL

As far as Reggie's daughter? It isn't so much that I get angry~ but I truly don't like her, and how manipulative and ungrateful she is, especially toward Reggie. I don't SHOW anger, but I must say I often feel very agitated and emotionally stressed. I can actually feel my body tensing and being as she doesn't care if I like her or not...the only person this is affecting is ME! So again, now that it is in writing~ I am making a true concerted effort to be not just physically, but emotionally healthy as well. Whew!!!! :-)

    Goals for this week ---
It's been a wild few days .. My girlfriend (Tina) and niece have been hospitalized - busy week-end visiting 2 hospital's .. wore a mask at both hospital's. 37 year old girlfriend had a stroke ..

    Goals for this week:

1)Be strong for myself, my sister and Tina, without jeopardizing my sanity or health.

    2) be strong and prepared for my 3 chemo cocktail tomorrow - TCH .. first go around -
    hell week for VickiSam.

    3) Move - walk, exercise 4 to 5 times this week / 15 min's to 30 min's.

    4) Reach out to someone in need of help or support - 4 times this week / via
    phone, internet, email.

    5) Journal all food intake and liquids (3 liters of water daily) to avoid the constipation I expereniced during my first TCH treatment 3 weeks ago.

    6) Stop beating myself when I am in a mind fog - due to chemo or lack of sleep.

    7) Stop purchasing Parkhurst and Isabella Hats .. I have over 30 hats, with 6 additional
in route to my home. Obsessive, yes.

    8) Enjoy life and the love that surrounds me.

    VickiSam

    Vicki,
I am sorry you are going through all of that, Vicki. I think taking care of yourself will help you to be there for others, so I like #3, 5, 6, and 8 especially. Hang in there. Exercising when you can really helps with the chemo side effects. Have you tried relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or light yoga? How about accupressure. Good luck.

That inspires me to take one, too, this week. Maybe Wednesday after the cleaning service cleans the bathroom and before the cats go traipsing through it. I should also try my guided meditation. I have Dr. Weil's CD, but have never really tried it....

    Hrm... goals...
Well, speaking of hats, my goal this week is to actually learn some hat-making. I'm working on a how-to guide on my site for women to make/alter clothing for free or cheap to fit their new in-treatment or post-treatment bodies, and hats are definitely part of that. So... maybe after I learn hat-making and convert it to free/cheap hat-making you can stop buying so many? =P

That guide is pretty much my only goal for the week, I'm pretty lazy.

Great idea to share beginning of the week goals, though, and not just end-of-the-week relief. Very motivating. =D

    Hats
You should totally make the hats, J. That's so awesome. I wish I could do stuff like that. I have a visually creative urge, but I am not visually creative...

My goals for this week are...
    1. Get out of the house and do something
    2. Get some exercise
    3. Scrub the kitchen cabinets
    5. Write down questions for my simulation appointment on Wednesday
    6. Make jewelry if my hands are not stiff and numb!
    7. Pick up race t shirts and bibs for team

    Elm,
Good luck on your simulation on Wednesday. It can get quite boring lying there while they measure and adjust, but you want them to be perfect with that radiation beam. Congrats on starting this next part of the journey. It will soon be over, too.

Will you post pictures of some of your jewelry?

    Cool thread!
If you don't mind I'm going to copy some of what others have said:

    1. Mimi - I liked your #2 - pick out outfits that make me look put together in the morning. I didn't get my outfit ready last night and was scrounging around today finding something to wear - not the best thing on the first day back to work.....

    2. Exercise every day for 15-30 minutes. I was home for a month and never got to the point of exercising for 30 minutes each day. My regular doctor told me he wants me to exercise an hour a day (yeah, right). This is something I NEED to do for myself.

    3. Eat more fruits and veggies and drink lots of water now that I'm back at work. While I was at home I didn't have a problem drinking enough water or eating enough fruits and veggies. I'll have to make sure I take some each day for snacks and lunch so I can get my 10 servings each day.

    4. Make a big pot of vegetarian chili for Thursday (a chili cook-off at work that day). I use 6-10 different kinds of beans and soak them overnight. Throw in some red peppers, carrots and celery and presto - yummy chili. I hope I win. P.S. I'm not a vegetarian, just don't like meat in my chili.

    5. Finish knitting the shawl I started a year ago. It would be nice to wear it this fall.

Mimi - thanks for starting this thread. It will be a challenge and I look forward to letting everyone know I finished everything on my list.

    Beans
What kind of beans are you making? I actually don't soak mine. It just takes a bit longer to cook if you don't soak, and I think they come out just as good. I made a traditional bean chili with kidney beans last night. Really low fat. Just kidney beans, chicken stock, onions, garlic, dried cumin, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Add some tomatoes if you like. Beans are great for you! My nutritionist recommends 1/2 cup of beans, lentils, or peas every day.

PS. Love the pedicure. Have a relaxing time!

    Mimi

    Pinto beans
I do what is called "quick soak": after sorting and washing the beans, use 2 cups water to every 1 cup beans. Bring to temperature and boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 1 to 2 hours. Drain & rinse, then cover again with twice the water as beans, and add salt and 2TBS olive oil. I use my pressure cooker, so I lock the lid on, bring to full pressure & time for 12 minutes. Once the pressure has dropped naturally, the beans are ready to use.

I made chile with some of the beans today, and served it with corn bread. I accomplished my whole list today... and best of all, Hubbydearest feels special.

    Speaking of goals....
LOL about the wine! Today when Doc asked how much and often I drank, I proudly said only on weekends and only one or two! Hubby stepped in and clarified "bottles", not glasses.
I think this week I will go through my clothes and get fall clothes ready to wear. Then make a list of what I need to purchase. I fit into NOTHING!! Doc keeps telling me no diet right now. They have been telling me this for 4 months!! I only want to lose 10 pounds! So I will also try to increase my exercise. Pammy

    Yeah, I keep going through
Yeah, I keep going through my closet and boxing up stuff that doesn't fit right now so I don't keep trying it on. That's what inspired my piece on weight gain with treatment and the upcoming "how to alter your clothes for free". It's crazy for people to go on extreme diets (different from eating healthy) when their health is compromised in other ways.
