Has anyone ever had the tube turn black inside? The hospital did not do a good job of flushing my mom's so when she went home the top portion was black and the bottom was yellow (from Jevity?) We have flushed daily with clear soda and water to no avail. Also, the stoma was red and inflamed, with a good amount of drainage (brown/green). We cleaned daily with water and peroxide and put a skin ointment on it. It started looking great and then today it was very inflamed and ****. Any thoughts?

    Dear Mess,

    Dear Mess,

My husband has had his peg for almost 5 weeks now. We panicked at first because the sight turned red and seemed a littlw ****. He went back to the surgeon twice only to find out it was all ok and healthy. He still has redness around the sight and it still drains a little bit. All is normal. His tube is stained a vanilla color because of all the vanilla Boost that gets poured down everyday. So just make sure you have someone check it to reassure yourself and your mom that all is ok. We are getting closer and closer to the end of radiation and today my hub. actually ate a small amount of smashed up chicken chow mein and rice. Yahoo!!!

    tube care
Jack has had his tube for a year now, I would go to your doctors, and ask them to arrange an x-ray to make sure it has correct placement, and I don't believe it is suppose to be **** drainage there might be a little infection going on, Jack has a little stain but I flush it with very warm water a play with the tube to get the build up off, ( rub it betwen my fingers ) I flush Jack's before he eats and after he eats, and when he is in the hospital, I do all of his feeding when I am there, and his flushing, the nurses just seem to be to busy to do it, As it for turning black I never seen that. And Jack's is not stain that bad, and I put alot of different color foods in his, Jack puts antibotic cream around the area if he sees it looks a little different, and so far we have not had problems,

    Peg Tube
Hello, I have had my Peg Tube since 10/2006. I just had the ninth tube put in last week. It is normal for then to drain and the pad should be changed at least once per day. Eventually the balloon on the end will burst and you have to get to the Dr and have a new one installed immediately.

I pour 4 cans of Jevity 1.5 and 32 oz of carrot juice into it each and every day. I am being treated for tongue & saliva gland cancer.

I eat a lot of mashed potatoes and soft things like that mainly because of my inability to swallow.
