I wanted to stop by and say hello to everyone. I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer on July 18th, 2007 and have been cancer free since November 2007. I hope to offer more support and learn much more from all of you very shortly.

Later,
Brendan

Hi back, my son just dx'd in april,he had 1 surg, had 1 testicle removed, has to have another surg.We try keeping our spirits up, this type of cancer has the best recovery rate. Lance armstrong's story, thats inspiration!, We're both scared but we try to laugh a lot and this helps. the American cancer society is a great resorce too. Our problem is that we're told treatment will make him sterile and doing the sperm bank is very expensive, we can't find any help with the costs, any suggestions?

I was not told that the treatment will make me sterile. I was told that it is a possibility. I know that's being nit picky with wording but little things like that can make a difference. All of my treatment was done at UNMC (http://www.unmc.edu/) in Omaha, NE. I do not remember who exactly suggested it but one of my doctors had me go to a Methodist Hospital facility to bank my sperm. There was no cost for me to do this and they'll keep it for 10 years. If I am ever to use the banked sperm it would probably cost me a pretty penny, though. I have not had my sperm count tested but that is something I am concerned about and will get tested soon.

Lance's foundation (http://www.livestrong.org/) is a TREMENDOUS resource. The Survivor's Notebook (http://www.store-laf.org/nt002.html) is a really really good resource. ACS also provided me with enormous amounts of material and have been extremely helpful. Ask around and you'll be surprised about what you'll receive.
