Dec 15th is looming, it is one year anniversary of my sister's passing to pancreatic cancer. I assisted in the last two weeks of her care, she did not want me there at first because I was barely out of treatment myself. In her last moments she was attempting to spare me. Once I was there though she was happy to have me nearby.

When she knew she would be leaving us she started boxing stuff for goodwill and setting stuff aside for us. Over the weekend i put up Christmas decorations and pulled out a heart that lights up that she gave me. It is two feet high by one wide, I have placed it over the entry door and have decided to leave it there. it is quite beautiful and when lit reminds me of her glowing personality. There are no words for how much I miss my big sister. Thanks for listening.

    Big sisters are special
I am sorry that you lost your big sister. Anniversaries can be tough but they can also be a special time to cherish the good memories. I lost my older sister to breast cancer nearly 19 years ago when she was just 40. I watched my father die of cancer when I was 18, and my step dad die of pancreatic cancer a few years ago. My mom and I are breast cancer survivors! It is very difficult watching our loved ones be consumed by cancer but as time passes, the pain subsides and the beautiful memories remain.
Wishing you beautiful memories of your big sis!!!!!!

    Big brothers are special too
My brother passed away 19 years ago from thyroid cancer at the age of 39. The last time I saw him alive was on Christmas day. It took me years and years before I could think about him or say his name without crying and sometimes I still do. Now more of the good memories replace the sad ones like this weekend with all the Christmas parades going on. My brother was in the fire department and they would organize the parade in our home town. For years he recruited me to wear one of those big headed character costumes and pass out candy. Every year I would get mugged and knocked down by the kids grabbing candy. Thanks for the memory Timmy!

    so sorry for your loss
    Dear RE,
I hope that your sister's gift to you will give you peace and make you smile as you think of her; that is, I'm sure, what she wanted.
I am 47, diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Melanoma and am celebrating what will probably be my last Christmas with my husband and 3 kids. I, too, am deciding who will get my Lenox ornaments, my nutcracker collection and the very special family decorations that I have collected and displayed over the years. When my husband distributes these gifts to my children, I want them to enjoy the memories that we shared at the holidays and hope they will also remember how much I loved them.
So, when you light up your heart, remember, it is your sister's way of reminding you just how much she loved you.
Wishing you peace and love at Christmas,
    Hollyberry

Thanks, girls, for your kindness.I am truly at peace; my husband and kids know how much I love them and know, also, that i will always be with them. I feel that love is such a wonderful gift and sharing it with you and all who need a kind word makes it grow all the more. My family has given me such love and joy- how could I not share that? You are all in my thoughts and prayers. If you see some Holly in your decorations , know that I am spending time with you at Christmas (wink!!)

    Hey Re
I wish I would have seen this post of yours before the 15th and in some way could have supported you but unfortunately didn't see it til now. I hope you were able to get through that day with the love and support of family and those caring individuals I see on this site. I don't have a sister myself but understand the bonds between sisters are very very strong. To lose someone you love around the holidays makes it doubly difficult I am sure but by the sounds of things both you and your sister were blessed with such love for each other, that is the greatest gift of all. Christmas is hard for many many people and I mourn, at this time of year, the loss of my family through divorce so I too don't find the holidays the continuously joyous event many do. But I suppose we have only to look deeper at the real reason for Christmas to bring us back to light and hope. Big hugs Re and blessings to you and all near you.

I just read the posts on this page for the first time and I have tears in my eyes but yet hope in my heart for all. I read your post just now and where you talked about the holly at Christmas, just to the right of my computer monitor is bowl of christmas balls and candles and in it are some holly sprigs. You are truly blessed with a loving family and at Christmas what greater gift can we have. When anyone reads your posts it's always a reminder of what is truly important in life, you are truly inspirational and make a positive and supportive message on this site. We are all lucky to know you, if even just in cyberspace. Much love and hugs, Blueroses.
