I have a recurrent primary liver cancer.Been first diagnosed in Sept.04 and had ressection in Feb 05.;After 2 yrs of remission, latest ctscan done in Dec.06 showed two smaller lesions(3cm)in place of the old big one(10cm)I had before. Through all of these, I did not tell my kids (10,11,14 yrs.old)about my illness. All they know is that something is wrong with my liver.I had my chemoembolization last month and is under evaluation for a liver transplant. The social worker i talked with suggested that i tell my kids about it, but i don't know how to break it to them, and im not even sure if i really need to tell them. I don't want them to be scared , worried, or be distracted from their innocence and peace. I want them to concentrate on and enjoy their young lives. But i want them to understand me of my moods and needs, too.Any help in this matter, pls?And what are the prospect of liver transplantation? Thanks for any help. And my prayers to everybody who are in the same boat with me. Let us fight with Faith in God and fight with all the love we have for our dear ones. May the Force be with us!

Hi Scribbles. First of all , I'm sorry you had a reoccurrance, but keep the faith. You beat it once and you can again. I agree with the social worker. You need to tell your kids, but you need to have a calm, reassuring conversation with them without being too alarming. they are entitled to know. They know something is something is "wrong" anyway and it's better that you explain it than they accidentally find out about it and are misinformed from some other source .My husband has liver mets from colon cancer, and we are praying for shrinkage for a resection, rfa or cryosurgery as options. Transplant is not an option for liver mets, although, we were told it is for primary liver cancer if a donar liver can be found. Good luck and God Bless. Keep the faith!

thanks a lot for the encouragement, hopefulone. The social worker has sent me some articles to help me find ways to tell my kids about my illness.I've rehearsed some lines, but when i look at my childrens faces and when they are so happy talking during our family meeting or family night, my heart just melt and the words just fly away. But one day i could muster the courage, i hope. By the way ive also ready your personal web page and i admire you for your attitude and outlook on life and the situation of your husband.People like you (and my husband too)are angels!Im praying for you and your husband too. I hope he is doing well. We CAN beat this -cer! Take care and God bless.
