I am new to this site andI think it is a wonderfull site.My husband is going to surgery on the 15th, he did chemo and the shrinkage was unbelievable - from 10, after 4 months he has 1 tumoer left , to be resected. They will inplant the hepatic pump also - Dr. Kemeny orders. Can anyone tell me if the side effects are less on regional therapy? Is anyone in this group going thru this combiantion of systemic and regional therapy? Thanks for any input.

Hello, my dad is also stage IV (diagnosed in May 2002). He recently had a recurrence in his liver (multiple spots). Just curious, what treatment helped your husband get from 10 to 1 spot? I have read up on the hepatic pump and hope that my dad will be offered that if he becomes operable after treament. I think it is the best way to rid the liver of any disease. Where are you having surgery? Just curious.

I hope I am doing this posting right. My hubby was first diagnosed on june 15th. The cancer was in only one spot on the colon, way up, so it spread out instead of within the colon. He had around 5 small/medium tumors(that we know) in each side. The treatment was 5FU,Oxiplatin and Avastin. We are with the famous Dr. Kemeny, at Sloan's in Manhattan. He is 47 and overall "healthy". I think besides the treatment, a lot of Reiki - I am a reiki master - , positive thinking(he says he is positive, not happy), and a good wife(!) and kids and friends. Lots of prayers from all over the world helps too. I have touched every angle possible. I think even the doctor was amazed. Our problem is that he is a solo practicioner so if he can't work for another year, I might need to get a "Real" job instead of the 2 part times I have.

My dad is very similar (excellent condition except for colon cancer). We are being treated at Johns Hopkins. I figured you were at Sloan's or MD Anderson. My dad is receiving the same chemo treatment. Out of curiosity, what was your husband's cea level before treatment and how long did it take to show dramatic decreases in the number? You have given me hope today!!! Thank you.

The first results, after 4 sessions(2 months), were wonderfull, the small ones disapeared and the bigger ones(2) were down by around 70%! Another 4 sessions and the next catscan show only one of the bigger ones left, but very small. I think they want to do the surgery because they want to see it, make sure there is nothing there. The Reiki works very well on the side effects and overall state of mind. Whatever side effects he had, he bounced back. We even had a pulmonary embolism! Now I read that this line of treatment makes the chance of cure increase from 20 to 60%!! I am not sure about the CEA, what is that? Is it the number of the cancer in the blood????
