edited March 2014 in Kidney Cancer #1
Hi everyone... i havent been on here in a while, dad recovered ok after having part of his kidney removed back in march 05, the pathology results took forever to come back ( i think it was like 5 weeks), specalist said it was a rare cancer, but not aggresive. was suprised tho when spec said he didnt want to see dad for a whole year...mmm. anyway dad has had his prostate levels checked again ( his yearly tests) and they are high local gp has put in report...levels suggest malignancy... its kinda weird because when we found out of dads kidney cancer it was only because his psa levels where high and upon further testing found kidney cancer, and they said his psa levels werent that high to be concerned, going back to see same surgeon again, but of course like last time , we are waiting forever to get in. if it is cancer, im wondering, is this classed as a secondary cancer or just a whole seperate thing.of course there may be nothing wrong, but im just so worried...and i know dad is too, any suggestions

are you going to a cancer center? it is very unusual not to see anyone after kidney cancer surgery for 1 year. i have had cat scans every 4 months since my surgery last feb. i have extensive blood work every 60 days. i see my oncologist and my regular gp at least 4 times a year. my kidney spec who was also my surgeon i have seen 4 times since surgery and am due for a 1 year check up from him. it sounds like you need to get an oncologist to spearhead your dad's treatment. pray and stay informed. best wishes to you!

hi urkabsd, thank you for the reply, dads kidney specialist was the one that did the op, and no i was with dad when he told dad there was no need to come back for 1 year, i questioned that at the time and said i thought he would need a follow up body scan at say 3 months, but no. i spoke to dads local gp today and DEMANDED he tell me over the phone dads psa levels, as the report we got back (just a letter for dad) had no psa levels, just said suspected malignacy. when i asked local gp the levels he told me i wouldnt UNDERSTAND them, i said well tell me anyway as ive done a bit of reasearch into this, he said the levels were 8 i said are they higher than last year he said slightly, but he went on to say that this number 8 detected a malignancy and he needed a biopsy, well cant get into see this kidney spec until 24 jan. i dont understnad it at all, im thinking is this "suspected" malignancy of the prostate just bad luck or is it beacuse the cancer has spread
