I AM NOT SURE IF I SHOULD CALL THIS A RARE CANCER AS FOR ALL NORMAL REASONS A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD IT - CANCER OF THE LARYNX. I CALL IT RARE BECAUSE IT WAS DIAGNOSED IN THE LAST OF ITS FINAL STAGE WHERE REMOVAL OF THE VOICE BOX WAS THE ONLY OPTION. NOT WILLING TO GIVE UP MY VOICE - I WENT DIRECTLY INTO 42 SITTINGS OF RADIATION AND 4 CYCLES OF CHEMO. THE RADIATION DOSAGE HOWEVER TURNED OUT TO BE A GRAVE ERROR AND I LANDED UP GETTING DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF DOSAGE - ENOUGH TO KILL A NORMAL HUMAN BEING ( I NOW WONDER IF I AM NORMAL - EVEN TODAY MY DOCTORS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO UNDERSTAND I HAVE WITHSTOOD THIS ONSLOUGHT AND ARE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE ASKING ME TO GET MRI'S OR X-RAYS' DONE). I WAS CANCER FREE AND TILL DATE ( ITS BEEN 5 YEARS+ ) THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF THE CANCER. I HAVE MY VOICE BOX INTACT AND BOTH MY VOCAL CORDS WHICH AS PER THE DOCTORS WOULD NEVER MOVE AGAIN ARE DOING SO IN PERFECT UNISON AND I HAVE A NORMAL VOICE. I WENT THROUGH PERETONITES WHICH WAS SO SERIOUS THAT THE DOCTORS HAD TO OPERATE WITH THE HOPE OF A MIRACLE - THAT DID TAKE PLACE AND I LIVED THROUGH THAT. A FUNGAL INFECTION THEN CAME AROUND BEHIND MY HEAD - BETWEEN MY BRAINS AND FOOD/AIR PASSAGE AND I WAS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR PARALYSIS NECK DOWNWARDS - LIKE CHISTOPHER REEVE - I SURVIVED. I THEN STARTED BLEEDING NON STOP THROUGH EVERY POSSIBLE OPENING - MY MOUTH, NOSE AND THE TEMPERORY TRACHEOSTOMY AND TO THE STAGE WHERE THE DOCTORS ACTUALLY ASKED MY WIFE TO TAKE ME HOME AS THERE WAS NO HOPE FOR SURVIVAL - WELL I DID SURVIVE AND TO THE DOCTORS AMAZEMENT - HE TILL DATE HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE BLEEDING AND WHAT MADE IT STOP AS THE MRS'I AND THE LARANGSCOPY PERFORMED SHOWED NOT EVEN A SCAR IN MY MOUTH.
DO I QUALIFY?

    Hello,

You may want to consider also posting your information on the throat cancer discussion board. Others may benefit from hearing your story and you may also gain support there. In general the rare cancer discussion board is for those cancers that do not have a specific discussion board that encompasses their cancer. However anyone is welcome.

    Take care and be well.
