My father is 65 years old and was diagnosed with bladder cancer 4 years ago. Docs suggested that bladder be removed at that time...Dad refused, so they did a partial. Cancer returned 8 months ago...very aggressive. Invaded the muscle and attached to the pelvic wall. They removed the bladder but the cancer had already spread. It has now metastasized to his head and possibly his kidneys. Doctors say there is no cure at this point and that he will probably die within a year. The news is devastating, as I am very close to my Dad, and cant imagine saying goodbye. I dont know how to deal with this...I feel paralyzed and so sad.

I am a cancer survivor and truely believe in miracles. My mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer with a prognosis of 6 months. They can only tell you what is the situation relative to surgical precedence. My mother lived an additional 16 years. She was a frail women of 98 pounds but defied the odds. Your father may indeed be such a survivor and prove them wrong.

I am sorry about your dad. It sounds like he made his decision 4 years ago and I would probably have made the same decision. At least he has had over 3 years with an acceptable quality of life, and that is a good thing. I am happy he had that time. Also, as someone else said, the doctors don't know everything. Many times people go on and on past the time frame the doctors give. I hope your dad really fools them and outlives the doctors!

Hey there ,to start out with I watched my dad waste away to nothing with bladder cancer,he did'nt or would'nt get any of the treatments to keep him around. We where very close And I always wondered if he made the right choice, but it was his choice! And now I'm the father of two little girls,And am very close to them. The worst thing is I now have bladder cancer the same one that killed my dad,BUT I am not going to lie down an take it I asked my girls to do one thing ,what I did for my dad ,Stand beside him, not next to him . And respect his choices, It will help him on the inside ,as I can tell you -It does!

    Krissy,
I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad. You will be in my prayers and I hope you find the courage to deal with this terrible disease. There are cases where cancer has been beaten and I hope that is the case for you and your family. In this day and age, I still don't know why a cure hasn't been found. Just be there for your Dad and make him as happy and comfortable as you possibly can.
