Clear CT Scan

I just returned from my monthly visit to MD Anderson for check up, CT scan and chemo. After my CT scan on Tuesday I ended up in the emergency room with a 103 degree temperature. Still don't know what the cause was but they brought it down to normal at about 2:30 am. The next day was my visit to the oncologist prior to my scheduled chemo. He came in smiling and said that my CT scan was NORMAL. All tumors were gone - no evidence of metestatic disease! Hooray! Just wanted to share.

This was after only 4 months of treatment after my recurrance. Now I am on a "maintenance" program. Has anyone heard of that??? I will be taking Xeloda and Celebrex daily for approx. 1 to 2 years! I am curious to see if anyone has heard of this procedure?

I trust my doctor completely and think very highly of MD Anderson Cancer Center. My doctor said that this "maintenance" procedure has produced great results and that 70% of the patients on it have had no additional recurrance for 2 years. (I think 2 years is the max. it has been tried)

I was surprised to see Celebrex on the list of colon cancer fighters!! Again, I was very lucky in that I caught my recurrance very early. It was in my lymph glands only.

Thank you all for all your well wishes during my treatment. I'll keep you posted on how this new "maintenance" program goes.

Best wishes, many prayers and love to you all.

Kerry

Well done, Kerry...that is great news. I have not heard of that treatment plan but it sounds good. Our oncologist did suggest that my husband take Celebrex but because of the recent controversy about it regarding possible side effects, he has not pushed the issue. In any case, it can irritate the stomach in some people and my husband cannot take any meds that do that. So for him, it is not really an option.

    Good luck!

Hi Kerry...Great news! I always tell Jerri about stuff like this 'cause some days this stuff just gets the better of you, and you wonder if you'll ever see the end of it and get back to somewhat of a "normal" life.

    Thanks, and go celebrate!

Hi Kerry, GREAT NEWS! It seems that a number of cancers now have a longer term "maintainance" program. Sounds like they are finding the right combination for colon cancer now. Continued good luck! Judy

Kerry, What great news! I have a good friend doing the same treatment and having the same great results. She is teaching full time and her CT's are great...and she is going on her 4th year of surviving! I am really happy for you. Oh Kerry, that is AWESOME news!!! I am so very happy for you:) Happy dance, happy dance. I hope you out celebrating and having a FABULOUS time! I have actually heard of celebrex being used. It is a COX-2 inhibitor and it is thought that it has anti-angiogenic properties.

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Lots of love,

I was praying for you with along with everyone else here. And I am not the praying sort. It must be a numbers game; if enough people are on your side.

Congratulations on your fantastic CLEAR results!

I was on Celebrex as a maintainence. I just recently stopped because it was irritating my stomach (after more than a yr no problems) and also the recent controversies but I took it for ?about 1 year or 1.5 yrs. (no Xeloda).

    All the best,
    Tara
