thyroid cancer

I am a national gaurdsmen activated almost two years ago and was just diagnosed in august with thyroid cancer. I am in a unique situation because of my location so I have had no contact with military doctors yet. Now that we are about to be deactivated I wanted to know if my medical benifits will continue, because obviously my treatment is not over. I am scheduled to have my first radioactive iodine treatment in october and should have no more treatments until next year. They will probably release me from active duty but I have no idea where it goes from there. My unit has never dealt with anything like this before, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight. Thanks.

Hi read you post and was wodnering what symptoms you had prior to you diagnosis/if any? Currently I have not yet been diagnosed with anything (ive had some tests done but havent gotten any resluts back yet) however over the past few months I have not felt healthy so I began doing some research on differnt sypmtoms that ive been feeling and all led me back to thyroid cancer. I've had a lump on my thyroid since I was little but dont recall if it was ever examend. I wonder if maybe you help me out.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was in the hospital getting radiation. I didn't really have any symptoms other than the large bulge on the right side of my neck. It was down low, right by my collar bone. About six months before the surgerey it started increase in size and that's what made me get it checked out. I had a cat scan and ultra sound to see if it was a tumor attached to my thyroid or a goiter. I then had a biopsy and it came out negative. I didn't find out it was cancer until after they removed it and did a detailed pathology exam. What sort of symtoms are you having? Tired all the time, gaining wieght, anything like that? Hope everything turns out ok, let me know.
