I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 12-23-04. I have completed 6 treatments and don't know what is next. They say it is in remission. I would like to hear from someonet that has walked this path.

Welcome to the site! You have come to the right place for lots of hugs and info.
I am a 4-year OVCA Stage 1 survivor. I had a total hysterectomy, as well as removal of omentum and lymph nodes. I had 6 rounds of heavy chemo (the tumor ruptured on removal). I don't know what your doctor has planned for you, but mine has me get monthly blood work (CA125), CT scans and chest x-rays every 3 months. I also do my yearly mammogram and need to schedule a yearly colonoscopy. Did you have surgery? What stage was your cancer? I am so glad for you that it is in remission. Since I have walked this path and I'm STILL walking!, please ask any questions, any time. You will find that there are many people on this site who you can chat with and share experiences with.
Keep in touch, and God Bless you.

Welcome, I am so happy for you that your cancer is remission. I know now can sometimes be more stressful than when one is on chemo and in the fight of their life. You will be put on a 3 month checkup and with any luck go to eventually a 6 month checkup. My sister had stage 3c ovarian cancer is 2 1/2 years clean and on a 6 omnth checkup. I was on a 3 month checkup but only made it from July 03 to February 04 and cancer reared it's ugly head.

I know talking with many people and some of them stage IV we are all different and for some they have many years of remission and some of us not.

You may worry about every pain and all the fatigue, which seems like it never goes away, but know this is normal and feel the anxiety and yes sometimes we even sit on the pity pot. But then get up and flush and live your life to the fullest. Continue to come here and I know you will find support and love. Take Care and God Bless.

    Hi Ducky,
Yes, welcome! I was diagnosed last September as Stage IIIB OVCA, went through 11 rounds of taxotere/carboplatin, and am now in remission. My docs put me on a maintenance protocol of getting a blast of taxotere every 4 weeks for a year to keep me in remission (since May). 3 down and 9 more to go, but I feel good (except week of treatment) and am back to work full time since June. As mopar noted, you didn't give us much info on your surgical info or staging, but know that we've all been there and can relate to everything that you are going through.
Keep visiting the site - it's been very helpful to me knowing I'm not alone in this fight.
    Be well.

Good morning. I just found this group. Once again i am having trouble sleeping. I had surgery on August 5th , a hysterectomy, appendectomy, and a tumor that was about 6 1/2" by 5". I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. When I went into surgery, the surgeon assured me that he thougth it was benign. Bad guess. Anyway. I am just starting this process. I am getting a Wound Vac tomorrow, and will start chemo when the wound heals. I haven't even seen the pathology report yet. I am terrified, as I imagine everyone has been. I am not very experienced in groups, but I saw this one and thought I should at least try. Sorry I sort of interuppted the group, but I don't really know the proper etiquette. Thanks. PattyB

PattyB, Welcome to the group. Why don't you post a new discussion after you find out your diagnosis? Was the tumor you mentioned from ovarian cancer, or was it something else associated with the surgery? I ask because if it were a uterine fibroid tumor, your doctor would not have suspected ovarian cancer and only found it because of the hysterectomy. Hopefully the ovarian will have a low stage.

How long is it anticipated you'll have to wait before starting chemo? Is a Wound Vac a treatment that you'll have done and leave at the doctor's office or hospital? I wasn't familiar with the term, so I looked it up. My incision did not heal very well at first, and it wasn't very pleasant to take care of.
