June 2003 - Rectal Cancer - Started with chemo & radiation, had my rectum removed with a temporary ileostomy, had reversal Oct. 2003 and have been partially obstructed since. Symptoms similar to Crohn's Disease. Anyone know of such a scenario? Thanks for your time.

You might try the UOA site, it's a good resource for all types of ostomy issues.

My husband had a lot of rectum removed and an ileostomy reversal. He had a lot of trouble regaining "normal" bowel functions - He didn't mention painful symptoms - mostly it had to do with control. He had to take a lot of psyllium to bulk up to help with bowel control. Are you also taking a lot of psyllium? At risk of sounding stupid, you may also consult your surgeon. The MD Anderson/Houston site had some good information about regaining bowel function- I contacted a nurse there for help about my husband. That's all that I know to tell you.
    Good luck!

Bowel control is also another issue that I understand improves with time. I do not take psyllium but will ask about it, thanks. When my ileostomy got reversed I now have inflamation at the reconnection site narrowing the passage. I was completely obstructed and hospitalized for bowel rest. Did your husband have difficulty eating and keeping food down after his reversal? Thanks for your time.
