HOW TO USE THE CHAT ROOM IN 25 WORDS OR LESS (more or less!)

For those of you who have heard the buzz of how cool the chat room is, you're right! It's all that and more! However, learning how to "enter" the room is sometimes intimidating, as well as impossible...so here's what you do:

(1) Click on the Chat Room Category on the home page.
(2) Be prepared to wait for up to 2 minutes, while it "allows" you to "enter".
(3) Once in, your name will flash on the screen, and then it will be added to the list of people in the room which is located to the right, in a column, next to the "big box" which displays the dialogue.
(4) Just below the "big box" is a thin line/box region. Click on that box, and write what you want to say. Then, hit "enter."
(5) Your message will display in the "big box" above, in the order in which it was received.
Now...sometimes the dialogue is flying so fast, it's hard to keep up, or talk to the person you want to. In cases like that, double click on the person you'd like to talk to. You will be re-directed to a small box in the top left corner of your screen. The same rules apply to chat: type your message in the smaller box under the box in the corner. Only the person you double-clicked on will see your message. When you want to return to the group chat room, simply hit the "x" in the corner of the smaller box to close that window.

There...did that help? By the looks on your faces, you still seem a little uncertain! However, print this, and try it out. It will open you up to meeting people who can relate to you and what your going through, and offer a world of support and understanding!

Hope to see you all there,
Stacy

You dork! So now you have no excuse for not showing up in the chat room...be there or, uh, be square (too late for that, hence the name!)

    'later,

Stacey, this was very helpful, but was is the etiket? Is it okay to click on one person and then just click out whenever? What is considered rude in the chat room? You need to cover that, because people might be afraid to appear like a fool or rude.

    Hi Tatie,

There is no real "official chatroom etiquette" except for keeping vulgarity out of your dialogue (HEAR THAT SPONGEBOB?!?!? tee hee) I also guess I should have mentioned that the list of names that is on the screen will not include your name, but the other people in the room will have it on what they see. I think the reasoning is that you already know you're there, and don't need to see your own name posted!

Usually, the conversations just fly all over the place...everyone kinda chimes on whenever they have something to add, or have a question about what was said. When people refer to PC, that means Private Chat, which is explained in my original posting. Usually, there is an agreed upon time when both parties in there decide to leave. Think of it as talking on the phone. You wouldn't just hang up without the proper "signing off", and the same applies to chatting.

Usually, when you log on, and everyone sees your name, they will welcome you with a "hi", "hello" or "hey" of some sort. Then, when you're ready to leave, just say, er, type so, and usually everyone will tell you bye.

(sorry...I was convinced a strong healthy stallion like yourself could recognize a little ribbing...it's not like I called you Pete Rose...now THAT'S rude!)

OK... let the logs reflect that on Saturday, 9/12 at 3:30 pm I went into the chat room, but there was nobody there. But I WAS there!

I guess next time I'll look at the little box that tells me how many people are in the chat room first.

    Anyway, I'll try again later...

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Thanks Stace for taking the time to do this for all the green horns. :-) It's worth the trip in y'all. It's one friendly bunch and you'll catch on in no time. You'll get to know different personalities and what is 'acceptable' and what isn't. And all are willing to help you figure it out if you just ask.
Please don't be intimidated....just jump in and join the fun.

Sponge I am proud of you....hope to bump into you there!

    peace, emily
