In reply to your answer on my question about results of RP. My PSA went from 1.9 to 3.9 in two years. I don't understand what you mean by: "caution you on staging premise of T1c". Also, what is the Partin table?

    Hi,
What I meant was to be careful about the premis that the cancer stage is rated as a T1C.With a psa of 3.9 after only 2 years, without any previous therapy such as a turp, that is probably true.If such is the case, you would be a likely candidate for seed implants since the level is less than 10. Ask your doctor about the partin tables which rates the possibility of capsule containment based on the level of PSA & Gleason score. For example my initial psa was 30, with a gleason of 6 from 2 biopsies and the chance of containment was slim to none! 1% or less I believe. If I can be of further help, please let me know.

For some reason my first reply did not go thru but anyway here is a web site where you can read about the Partin tables and also calculate the possibility of capsule containment based on your own readings.http://urology.jhu.edu/Partin_tables/
Otherwise what I meant by caution with the staging report was to be sure it was applicable. With a psa of only 3.9,without any previous therapy for example a t.u.r.p. after 2 years it is probably true and if the disease is contained you probably would be a likely candidate for seed implants, however it MUST be your decision.
If I can be of further helplet me know.

    Hi,
FYI here's another web site which gives a rather extensive report on seed implants versus radical prostatectomy: http://www.urologyhealthcenter.com/documents/brachy_radial.htm
I guess my replys are going thru! For some reason they don't show up on my machine the first time I go back to the discussion boards but they are there later! Quirks of the computers I guess, heh.
    Good luck, Benny

    Hi,
For what it's worth, here's a couple web sites detailing the studies regarding the prevalence of incontinence & impotence following
radical prostatectomy.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=9519358&dopt=Abstract.Also: http://www.pshgroup.com/dg/159786.htm Somewhat different results but correspondingly nonetheless.
I'm sorry but I didn't realize I had sent you the URL about the comparison of seeds versus surgery in a previous reply.
    Good luck, Ben
