I was recently diagnosed with a tumor the size of a grape (small) on the lower part of my left kidney and I am scheduled to have a partial nephrectomy in about 10 days. I was informed by the doctor who found the tumor that it would not be necessary for me to see an oncologist, but I want to leave no stone unturned in the treatment of my cancer. Has anyone else had similar advice? If you have had such advice but decided to see an oncologist anyhow, was it worth the effot?

I too had a partial in early May this year and was told the same thing. After consulting with my local GP I decided to continue the faith I had in my surgeon and
did not seek input from an oncologist. But that has to be your choice. Whatever makes you most comfortable. I just had my three month CT and everything was clear. Good luck, maintain your positive attitude. You can email me with any questions at gfed@ncn.net if you like.

Why oh why aren't you getting any treatment for your lung metastasis - there are so many new treatments that we have been told works best for mets to the lung - Do you live near a national cancer center?

My husband received this same advice in Aug 99 when he had his kidney emoved - He was told he was cured and to go live his life - He was followed by his urologist (surgeon) for 2 years with cat scans - He was found in 4/02 to have mets to a lynph node(which eas surgically removed) and in 7/02 to the bone - He is now being followed by an oncologist and has had a complete response to Peg-Introl
So do the follow up cat scans religiously
