Thank you all for your words of encouragement and hope. I will live the most out of the life I have left, I give you my pledge. I have only one person left to tell and then I hope the tears will dry up for awhile. I have always been the person who helps others. It is so strange to be on the other side. I have always been a giver not a taker and it is hard to change. I guess we never stop learning!!!!!Everyone wants to help and I wish they could but I don't know what to tell them, except to pray to God and to ask him for a little more time.

I am 48 years old and I live outside of Atlanta. My team of doctors I feel are doing a great job with me. If anyone hears of a study that might help I will be there.

Another question for the group. Is there any financial assistance that I can get from social security or am I to young for that? Please let me know.

Again, thank you ALL for your support. What I get from you all is priceless.

    hiya, Scuter,
    i receive social security benefits and SSI (supplemental security income) because i have a spot on my spine that makes me unable to work. i can't lift very much and i can't sit or stand for long periods of time. i even have trouble carrying my 9 mo. old son who weighs almost 26 lbs. i think it would be worth checking out. i'm only 36.     I hope you find your financial support through these hard times. I don't know much about benefits, but what I do know is that no one has the authority over you to give you a certain time to live or die. Only God has that choice. I once read this statement from someone who had cancer, they said that they were "living with cancer, not dying from it". And that is so true. We live with this diagnoses everyday, but who says we will die from it? One of the ladies in support group has bone cancer in her legs that has had it for 7+ years and says she sees it as a chronic disease (like diabetes, etc), not just a terminal disease. I also met a woman who had a 5% chance of living 18 years ago! So, hang in there sweety as tough as you can. You will be in my prayers. pkay

    I have heard many stories on this site of women who have survived mets. When I was going through treatment I read "It's Not About the Bike" by Lance Armstrong the now three time winner of the Tour de France. His story is beyond inspiring considering how serious his cancer was and how he recovered and won the races. At the end of the book he tells what his doctors thought his chances or recovery were .... I was totally blown away! I urge everyone to read this book. I have a freind who was not working and uninsured when she was diagnosed and she received all her treatment through a state program. You will find the support you need. Your doctors and nurses should be able to refer you to a social worker or someone who can help. My prayers are truly with you. Jamie

    Scuter, We are with you, never forget that. I am sorry you have had to face such a thing. You certainly will have to do as we have learned along the way that one must realize their limitations and work with them and the other is that we all have to learn to ask for help and we must do that. I woke everyday and prayed even though I never really thought of it like that. I prayed I would have the strength simply to get through the day. We do.
    Your Cancer foundation may be able to help with payment for drugs and food sumpliments and things. Try it I haven't had to.
    We know that you won't give up cause we won't let you. LOL

    Hey Scuter darling, there is no age limit on Social Security benefits, if you have ever worked. Contact everyone you can think of the local American Cancer Society, your county, state and federal agencies, etc. You can get help. And if not, just charge it all and tell them, "too bad"..Hugs, and kisses, Shirlann

    Hi Scuter...I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you yet. I've been offline for a little over a week, and just read your posts. I am so sorry you are going through what you are going through. No one knows what to say in this circumstance, and sometimes some of us feel guilty for getting off so much easier than some women. I have to believe that all in life is God's plan, even when we don't understand the "why's" of it all. I will pray for healing for you, and will put you on my prayer chains, so you can feel the prayers from around the world. I think when people ask what they can do, tell them to pray and to just be there. There is a neat story I just read at http://www.healthtalk.com/bcen/path/shockney1.html It is actually an interview with a nurse who has received numerous awards over the years for her work with breast cancer patients, and she is a survivor herself. She started a website about mothers supporting daughters with breast cancer. It can be found at www.mothersdaughters.org It was a good site.
