Hi Carlye...so sorry to hear the chemo is doing a job on you. I didn't have it, but a friend in my support group did. Her symptoms started about the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment, and she was in bed for 2 days with very bad bone pain, and she said her skin hurt, too. Also, she got numbness in her fingers and toes. She was eventually pre-medicated with steroids, which did help somewhat. She also had some blood count issues, and I know she got neupogen shots throughout most of her treatment. She has been done since March, and is still having some of the numbness. I'm in Michigan for the summer, and I think she's now somewhere in New York for the summer, and I don't know if she has e-mail. But, I hope this at least let's you know that it sounds like you're having a normal reaction. But, talk to your onc and see if they can premedicate you. Someone else somewhere....don't know if it was my local support group, or on this one or the other online one (night sweats are affecting my brain! LOL), but they had their taxol dose cut in half...was that you maybe? Told you I don't remember!!! Anyway, just another thought. Hugs and prayers, and let us know how you're doing. Cyndi

    Hi Carlye,
I've just finished my 3rd dose of Taxol and I do premedicate with dexamethasone 12 hours and 6 hours before the chemo (I have to set my alarm for 4:30 AM). Also, in my IV I get benadryl before the Taxol. I don't know if your onc does this as well, but my side effects are not too bad, usually achiness and bone pain about 2 days after treatment, that lasts for about 2 days, but it's manageable with ibuprofen. Good luck!

My taxol was given exactly as Lisa is getting it. But I did also get Pepcid along with the Benadryl.

Taxol is supposed to always be given after premedication with steroids. It kept me awake so I just stayed up for my 3.a.m. dose!

I see a lot of variation in treatments with postings from all over the country.

I had 6 cycles of Taxotere (like Taxol) & had the same symptoms after the first one. Even a little touch was painful & I had to be carried to the toilet as my joints were so weak. The only cure for me was a slight reduction in dose & an increase in dose & length on treatment of steriod medication. This worked wonders & I was able to last out the treatment. i was glad I did as Adriamycin had had no effect on the cancer but this one did & has given me a partial remission from stage 4 disease.
    Best of luck
    Love & hugs
