Does anyone have expereince with using Clonadine for hot flashes following chemotherapy-induced menopause? Any other suggestions? I'm on tamoxifen.

Hi! My MD recommended Clonidene for my hot flashes but one side effect is to lower blood pressure and mine runs low so I was afraid of bottoming out. It's supposed to be good. There are other medications that work also. They are antidepressents like Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor and Prozac. If the clonidene works for you stick with it. I tried the Paxil for 2 days and had to stop as I was getting blurred vision and felt weak and tired. Good luck! HUGS!! Cathy

I was on Tamoxifen for 8 months and began having terrible hip and back pain. I was also taking Megace (20mg) daily for hot flashes. Two months ago she switched me from Tamoxifen to Arimidex and the hot flashes really started coming on strong. Also, gaining weight like crazy. She told me to stop the Megace (causing the weight gain!) and put me on Clonidine. Took it for 1 week and had to stop. I already have low blood pressure and it made me feel awful...light headed, dizziness and constipation! Now I am taking nothing but Arimidex and will see how bad the hot flashes get without meds. Good luck to you in your treatment. From what I have researched on the Internet, Clonidine should reduce hot flashes by 40%.

    Take care and God Bless.
