hi, my name is megan and i was diagnosed in nov 2001 with stage 1 bc. i have had 4 cycles of chemo...a/c and now i'm starting radiation treatments. i've had 3 so far. i'm so relieved and glad that the chemo is over and i feel like radiation is a breeze so far. i just wanted to mainly say that if anyone needs to talk, i'm here. if anyone's newly diagnosed or around the age of 30 when diagnosed because i know how i felt at the time. i'm anxious for the radiation to be over, but then i have to be on tomoxifin for 5 years. is anyone taking that or taken it in the past and have any words on this medication/side effects, etc.? i would appreciate it. anyway, i also have a 2 year old son who keeps me busy and just woke up from his nap, so i better get going but i'll check back later. thanks. megan

    Hi Megan,
Welcome to this site. Congradulations on finishing your chemo. I also had chemo 8 treatments and was relieved when it was all done. I didn't have to have radiation. I have been on the tamoxifen for a little over a year and so far the worst thing is that I have terrible hot flashes and am trying all sorts of things to help with them.I do have some aches and pains but nothing I can't live with so far.Best wishes to you as you finish your radiation and keep us posted on how you are doing. God Bless

Hi Megan. Welcome to this site. It's great here. I've been on since Sept. 2000. I can't talk much about chemo and radiation because I didn't need either one but I am taking Tamoxifen. The only side effect I'm having is hot flashes. I've been taking 800 IUs of vitamin E but it hasn't helped me at all. It does help others. There are other medications that can be taken but I don't want to take anything else. If you have any specific questions or you just want to chat you can e-mail me here or at RPT1206@aol.com. Oh, I'm 50 so there's an age difference but I can still talk. Keep in touch! Good luck! HUGS!! Cathy

thanks debbie for your response. i've heard more often than not that hot flashes are the # 1 side effect of tamoxifen. i have 30 more radiation treatments and then i start on the medication. how long do you have to take it? if you don't mind me asking, did you have surgery? and why 8 treatments. i realize that all treatments are different, but i'm just curious and want to learn. it is nice to be able to talk to people on line about this and i like this site too. well write back when you can and if you want to, my personal email address is dewb15@aol.com. talk to ya later.

    Hi Megan,
No I don't mind you asking anything at all that is what we are here for to help each other. I have to take the tamoxifen for 5 years.I had 4 treatments of adrimyacin and cytoxin then 4 treatments of taxol.I had two different types of cancer infiltrating ductal carcinoma and DCIS. Maybe that is why I had 8 I am not sure, although many women do have the 3 different kinds of chemo.I also had to have three surgeries. Some of us have web pages with our stories if you would like to know more about us.You take care and let us know how you are doing. We are here when ever you need us.
    God Bless
