Hi,
I've just been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Just reading that others hv gone through or are going through the same thing on this site was a help.

I've a 4 cm tumor, right breast. Now going through scans to check if its spread, and will be discussing treatment options with doctors later.

Battling breast cancer is a long journey; wld like to hear from others how you go through it - while keeping yr spirits up and the stress levels down!

    One day at a time!

During treatment, you are busy with new things happening each day - and somehow I rhink it keeps the stress level down - at least it seemed to for me.

Half the battle is knowing you are in good hands for your treatments. Go to the best treatment center available in your area. Sounds like you are in a good place.

    Good Luck!

Hi, Jean, remember, most of us have been on these posts for a loooong time! I am 3 & 1/2 years past BC and doing great. You will too. I really don't know why we all get so scared of breast cancer, but we do. Heart disease will kill most of us! Anyway, stay on the boards and you will get a lot of info. Also, buy Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book and take a small tape recorder with you to the docs, with their permission record and then you don't have to try to remember so many things. It helped us a lot. God bless you and keep you safe. Hang in there! It gets a lot better real soon! Shirlann

    Welcome!
I hope you'll find this site as helpful and inspiring as I have in the past couple of months. Hope also that your scans will confirm that the cancer has NOT spread. I don't feell like I'm an expert in the matter of breast cancer but would be happy if I could help you in any way, since I myself have felt very supported by the members of this site who helped me when I was first diagnosed last November. I had a lumpectomy end January and lymph node involvement (1 out of 12 nodes). So I'm now going through 4 cycles of chemeo (AC), then the Dr plans to re-operate to get a clean margin, then 6 weeks of radiation.
Quite frankly, the chemeo has not been as bad as I thought it would be. The anti-nausea pills they prescribe can really help.
Loosing your hair is of course very depressing, but once it's all gone, it's not so bad. I found it depressing that it kept coming out every time I ran my fingers through my hair so took some pro-active action and went to the hairdressers to have it all shaved off. Feel much better about it now - my oldest daughter (who once shaved her hair pretty near off to have that "punk" look) says I look more modern and young !!!It helps to have lots of support from family and/or friends when you're feeling tired. The first week after chemeo usually finds me sleeping all the time. That's when I appreciate the meals that friends bring over for hubby and kids!! But I think the reaction to chemeo is really quite different for everyone. Anyway, keep you chin up, you'll get through it. Just tell yourself that certain things or projects just need to be put on the back burner for a while as you concentrate on getting rid of this cancer.
Let us know what treatment you'll be having and how you're doing.
    fondly,
    Sue

I know being diagnosed is scary, I was just diagnosed last November, had lumpectomy, did 4 rounds of chemo, and am about to start radiation. The biggest thing I can think of that helped me was that I didn't let it stop me. I went back to work full time 6 days after surgery and have continued to go to the dog and cat shows as always. While it is on my mind I try to not let it get me down nor do I try to hide it. I talk about it freely and I think that helps me to keep from letting it bottle up and wear on my mind. I wish you all the very best and if I can be of any help just let me know. Noreene
