I am 30 years old and 8 hours away from my mom. She is 56 and starting radiation next week due to uterine cancer. I have 3 children and a husband to take care of and feel torn being away from her during this important crucial time. My step dad is taking wonderful care of her but I still feel I need to be there in case something goes wrong. Also looking to move back home so I can be nearer to her and take care of her. Please give me insight-

You have my deepest sympathy. I was unable to visit my mother during her treatment, except for one quick weekend. We never know what's going to happen, but that goes for good things as well as bad. I just had to take things one step at a time, and in the end, we know what we need to do (for ourselves). Listening to what I wanted to do, and leaving the "shoulds" aside worked well for me.
    Sending you a hug.

P.S. to RE: Mom has uterine cancer and starting radiation-
It worked well for the rest of my family, too, especially for my mother.
