Hair regrowth

Well I did it... I came into work without my scarf on .. it was one of the hardest things I've done, but I DID it... so it's onwards and upwards from here on in.... on 6 more rads to do.

    I'm proud of you! I can only imagine how much courage that took. I've worn my hat once and that felt awkward. Your're my hero!

    BB, I wish I had your courage. I wear my wig all the time. Once in awhile, I will tie a scarf on, around the house. My new hair feels "textured"...I am starting to think it may be trying to curl. It is still too short to tell what it is doing and it is still WHITE...How has the radiation effected you? Have you burned very much? You are in your last week now. You have it all behind you.     Hey Nancy and BB,
    My hair never did all fall out nor did I shave it off, just cut short enought to not have to bother with what was left and went about my usual...sometimes wearing wig, sometimes a crazy hat, sometimes a bandana.
    But my main point is that the hair that stayed in during chemo did grow a little, and some of that is falling now do to normal hair attrition. IT becomes CCURLY about 1/2 inch to 1 inch from the root end, quite suddenly. I am not certain but I think there is a change in the hair follicles caused by something whether chemo, or the shortage of nourishment for the hair or what. I had similar damage when I tried to get a permanent when I was about 2 weeks pregnant with my second child...did not even know I was pregnant. about 3 days after the perm, all my hair broke off, and when it started growing out it looks textured just like this does.

    A native american woman who lives on the Rosebud reservation said her hair came in curly after chemo for lung cancer, It had been straight as can be before (now she has an Afro but it did get black like her hair had been, but the curliness never went away for her...

    All we can do is wait and see. My new stubble is too short to tell what it is but it is definitely as coarse and stiff as my old hair (in my baby pictures I resembled a porcupine). I get measured for my radiation on Tuesday morning...since it is both sides they set up a minimun 2 hour appointment...off to the races. luv you'all, cher
