Votrient & thyroid

I was on Votrient for 5 weeks before being pulled off of it because of elevated liver enzymes.  Now he calls today to say my thyroid hormones are elevated and the scans show an enlarged thyroid and he thinks I might want to have it removed.  The reason for doing that had something to do with the Votrient, but he caught me off guard so I didn't ask questions.  I will see him nexxt week though.

Has anyone else had Votrient effect their thyroid?  If you later came off of the Votrient, did your hormones return to normal?

Kathy

Hi Kathy, any news on the thyroid?  My mom's thryoid was underative and slightly enlarged. They gave her synthroid for it, never suggested removing it.  It has since balanced out since she went down to the 200 mgs a day dose. No more synthroid... All my best to you!

    Some confusion

    Hi Ange,

My CT Scan report said that I had a multinodular thyroid (goiter) and my blood tests said mine is overactive.  My GP sent me for a thyroid ultrasound and it says my thyroid is normal size with a tiny cyst, but she said she would trust the CT scan more.  So, now I'm not sure why we even did the US.  See scheduled me with a surgeon for Monday so we will see what he says.  I will let you know.  I'm glad to hear that your mom improved.

Wow, i would get a third

Wow, i would get a third opinion then... and not meaning the surgeon.   In this situation, who knows best? Is your neck swollen in front by thyroid?

    Not swollen

No, nothing visible.  I don't even know that the Votrient caused it.  I had not had it checked in over a year.

    Idea

    Hi Kathy,

When my husband was on Votrient he was freezing all the time, and his thyroid level was marginally hypothyroid.  Not enough to give him medication.   He doesn't take Votrient anymore, but continues to always feel cold.  His thyroid levels are normal now.  We are kind of wondering if all the metal hardware in him is making him feel cold?  It may sound silly, but that is what we are thinking.

i am hypothyroid for years.  I had a nuclear thyroid scan done with a radioactive iodine tracer.  My suggestion for you is that you need to see an Endocrinologist.  Their knowledge is vastly superior to a GP.  (In my experience).   So, if you are looking for a third opinion, an endocrinologist would be my choice.
