Shingles

I have all of the symptoms for shingles in my scalp, ear and cheek.  Luckily I don't have to worry about the eye, it's on the right side, same side as eye was removed.  For someone pretty much numb from surgery, little bugger found some nerves that are still felt.  I figured with all of the treatments that I have had that this was a strong possibility for me.  Not fun.

    NOT FAIR !

Good heavens !  After this occurrance, are they recommending the shingles vaccination for you ?  My sister in law had this really bad a few yrs. back, and after had the shot and so far no more.  This is totally not fair, I'm so sorry you have to endure it.  Let us know how you're doing throughout.  Hugs sent !  Katie

    That just bites!

Sorry you have the shingles on top of all you have endured.  I was about to get the shot and then had to suspend it as I had to have my scc surgeries and then came rads so I will ask if I can have it now.  Your plight has reminded me to take the vaccine.  Most of my friends who have had it did not even have cancer and one was too young for the vaccine.

    Take care,

    PJ

    SHINGLES

It's amazing, as if dealing with the beast and aftermath isn't enough already, I'm sorry that you have been visited by this scourage.  I had it, and know that it's no fun at all, which reminds me that I still need to get the vaccination.  I hope that you have a quick recovery from it, and I'm sending positive energy and best wishes your way.

    Bummer

So very sorry to hear this.  It's just one damned thing after another...  Reminds me that my GP gave me a prescription to get a shingles vaccination shot.  I put it off, as I got the whooping cough vaccination first, and wanted to wait a bit before getting another.  Here's hoping for a quick and painless resolution of this issue.  xxxooo

    Poor you

poor you I feel for you, I had shingles a couple of years ago around my waist and that was bad enough, huge blisters and a pain I'd hate to experience again. I didn't know just how painful shingles were. I was told it was lucky I didn't have them on my face as that's the worst place, so poor, poor you.

    I've had singles...

In my eye's since Christmas. Has been absolutely horrible.

The rash broke out on the right side of my forehead and on my hairline. Although my right eye was effected worse, Shingles did eventually get into my left eye as well, so if you've still got one healthy eye you need to be VERY vigilant because it can get into the eye that's away from the rash...

Any sign of redness, discomfort or light intolerance in your good eye you need to get to your general DR immediatly (anti-viral ointment is the first line fo treatment)

Ask to be referred to a specialist. I was left from Christmas to March without seeing a specilist (good old NHS again) and having minimal treatment.  When I finally took matters into my own hands and payed to see a specialist private I was told my GP should have referred me to him at Christmas, as even the suspicion of Shingles in the eye's is basically a medical emergency.

I was left so long without the correct treatment that as well as having Shingles in my eye's I also had a serious bacterial infection (probably from acne) deep within my eye's. I was actually quite seriously ill and certainly felt it.

Things have picked up after taking long courses of steroids, antibiotics and anti-virals, but my eyes are still not right and I still feel generally ill within myself.

Shingles can be very, very nasty, so do take care of yourself.

    not fun

    Bev,

I am sorry about your condition.  I hope you improve quickly.

I mentioned shingles to my doctor, post treatments and the next thing they were sticking the vaccine in my arm.

I watched my Mom go through it and did not want any of that for me.

    Heal on sweetie,

    Matt

Thank you for the information.  I was worried about you when you said it had gotten into your eye.  My cancer migrated up my optic nerve and had to be removed.  I belong to another site, Lost Eye, and there are many on the site that have lost vision and eye to infections.  I definitely want to take care of my one remaining eye.

    Smug

When I pass the sign outside the drug store saying 'Shingle shots,' my abi-normal thinking says I don't want a shot for that (to get shingles!).  Well I can say now, get the shot, this is no fun.

So sorry to hear that you have shingles. I had them 2 years ago on my shoulder. It was during my tx but they never got too bad. Hopefully, that will be the case with yours too.

When it rains it pours :-(

Heal quickly and without too much pain or discomfort.

    Thanks for your concern. :)

I was about wary about posting my story, as the last thing you want to hear when your ill is someone's tale of woe, but you must be very careful with your remaining eye.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

    Give me a shot!

Shingles is a condition starting to creep up my list of post tx conditions tha are on the radar much like dental issues. It seems to hit us far more often than the general public and I understand it can be triggered by stress --  and boy do we have to manage that alot.

What's the scoop on this vaccine? If it is at all reasonably effective at stopping it or minimizing the symtpoms, shouldn't we all be getting them without even asking or at a minimum asking our doctor if it would help?

    Shingles

Very sorry to hear that you have shingles. Had then many years ago, The little buggers do hurt and sting a lot. Got within four inches of a complets circle around my mid section. Back then I had to take several shots to get rid of them. I think corn starch helpped dry them up a little. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
