Well, I went in for my left kidney robotic laparoscopic nephrectomy. It took the whole procedure with us having to be there at 10am. I Wasn't back to room infill almost 7pm. They got everything and they only had to have maybe 1/4 or more of more of kidney now it's the hard part: healing omg does it hurt. The gas has settled up into my right shoulder. Any suggestions?

Thanks so very much,

Kerrie

Oh I forgot I have to tell you this my daughter who will be 12 in April. Asked if the moved my belly button. I thought that was funny

As my husband would say "don't be a hero"

And by that he means stay on top of the pain by taking the doses as soon as they become available.  Don't think you don't need them. Make sure you have the button near you at all times so you can self-medicate using the pain pump (assuming you have one) through the night. Also, he highly recommends pushing the pain meds button right BEFORE they try and make you walk or get out of bed.

    Good luck with your healing!

    Just wondering

Mine was like 2 1/2 cm right at the bottom left kidney and Surg said they hardly took any kidney out. Where was yours located that they took out 1/4. Wish they took out a 1/4 of mine also just to make sure. I had the second mini belly button too about 2 inches to the left and it took a good 8 to 9 months before it fades out. As for the left shoulder gas dilemma don't know....maybe try that chicken dance thing for a few minutes..

    Free Pass

    Kerrie,

With the surgery you get a free pass to have as much gas as you want whenever you want.

    Post Surgery!

    Hi Kerrie,

I am glad to hear the surgery is over and done with, and all went well. As the others have said keep on top of the pain, make sure you take the meds on the given times. Try to walk around as much as you can, careful slow motion initially and gradually build up to short walks. The pain in the shoulder will go off after a day or two, the carbon dioxide gas that they pump into the abdomen irritates the nerves, the abdomen and the shoulder tip have the same nerve supply.

    Take it easy heal well!

    no pain pump for me:(

I take hydrocodone with Tylenol 500/325mg 1 every 4 hours. I am trying to stay on top of the pain or ahead of it the best I can. I wish we had siderails on our beds so then getting out of it wouldn't hurt so much ! I don't recall all off the detail yet of how much they cut out.I just know it wasn't as much as they thought and they took a nice slice of fat with it, along with all my tumor

You know I wish I could begassy but it isn't happening.I'm starting to have Sharp pains in my stomach because of it. Even with taking the stool softener.

    small suggestion...

When trying to get up...rather than trying to sit up normally, it's easier if you roll onto your side, extend your legs and push yourself up.  Sounds wierd but worked for me...and how are those bowels doing ???  So much fun !  Take care !

    Hi Kerrie,I'm sorry you are

    Hi Kerrie,

I'm sorry you are in pain. I hope you feel better soon. I had my surgery on the 13th and I was at the grocery store myself yesterday.

My incisions look like 3 little scratches with a little bruising around them. I have one in my belly button too but they are tiny and glued. I doubt  they will leave a scar. I was up a lot the first night and I came home the next day and its hard for me to stay still. I think the activity helped.

I wish you a speedy recovery and I feel thankful for my excellent surgeon.

Keep us posted on how you are feeling.

    Pain!

    Hi Kerrie,

There are so many variables with this op, which often determines the amount of pain experienced. The position and size of the tumour and the more difficult it is to access, can be a major factor. I have a high pain threshold, but I was in significant pain afterwards, but they had to cut through a lot of scar tissue. The pain eased considerably after the first week, but the pressure pain continued for several weeks.

Make sure you are gentle on yourself, get plenty of rest interspersed with some light excercise, like walking. You may feel severely tired for a few weeks, especially in the afternoons, that is normal. Be sure to keep up with your water intake, that will help with all forms of bodily movement:)

    Heal well!

Glad its over and you are on

Glad its over and you are on the mend.

The GAS!! Yess!! Forgot about that! They pump you UP UP UP to SEE inside and it has to go somewhere right? Finds the weirdest places and yes it hurts!

Pain meds don't always work as its not able to reach the spaces were gas is trapped.

BUT MOVING helps.. and hurts .. sorry

    Continued healing~

    sorry for late reply

I haven't had the best of luck. I got a fever at the beginning of the week with the start of a UTI. Thanks to the Foley. I went and saw my primary physician at the end of the week and he felt a mass on the surgical side. I see my urologist tomorrow so we shall see what's up. I'm not all get up and go and can say that, but hopefully soon. Though I think it's only been 6-7 months since I finished dialysis and maybe it's just going to take me a little longer to heal.

    late appt

Sorry I didn't get back to you guys sooner about my appointment. My son had complex tendon transfer surgery on his wrist. So I've been busy. My appointment went great. The Dr. Said they got it all. He said he was happy he went farther with the margins because the cancer almost came close to the edge. I have to go back in 6 months for a chest xray and mid along with follow up. I'm still a little sore but I'm sure that's to be expected for awhile. I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your support through this.
