Finishing chemo today!

in Anal Cancer #1

I was diagnosed with a large Stage 2 rectal cancer on May 23rd. Went through radiation, chemo and surgery in October. Today I'm finishing chemo and this treatment left me with a colostomy and neuropathy in my hands and feet. I'm still very grateful, because without this treatment I would be dying or dead by now.

Ill have a CT on the 24th and if that is clear ill be considered NED since there is no indication of lymph node involvement or metastases. 

It has been tough, but with the help of family and friends like you, I did well.

    So pleased to see your post. I have been wondering how you have been getting on.  I am so glad your treatment is finally over. It sounds gruelling. I hope the neuropathy can be eased & that you can now begin your journey back to health.

    I have laid back from this site for awhile, but decided to look in on my friends this morning and was so glad to see your post.  I have thought of you many times and hoped that everything was going well.  I am SO happy to hear that you are now finishing up your chemo and I hope that you have managed the side effects well.  I hope the neuropathy will ease up on you as time goes on and the chemo drugs flush out of your body.  You have certainly been a real trooper and an inspiration to me and I'm sure others on this board.  May all the bad stuff be behind you and may lots of good stuff lie ahead for you and your lovely wife.  As always, I wish you the best and hope you'll come back from time to time to update us.  Take care!

    It is great to hear that you are finally finishing this battle. I pray that you find out you are NED on the 24th and that each passing day you feel better and better! God bless you and keep you well.

    Laz, its so good to hear from you and that today you are finally finishing up the chemo part of this journey. I will pray that your up-coming CT brings nothing but good news.

    I hope that the ostomy is becoming managable for you, give it time, and it will someday be like second nature. (kind of literally)

    When I drink the contrast for the CT it seems to run through me soon after (like within the hour) so I usually plan to hang around the clinic/doc office to be near a restroom that is comfortable for emptying my bag before heading out. I guess it may depend on your plan for the day or length of drive, but just a word of caution.....it seems to have a quick reaction with ostomies.

    Be well as you continue to move forward in health!

    Thanks for the tip!

    I live just a few mimutes away from the clinic, so I think I can make it home. But ill take your advise and arrange my afternoon cautiously.

    Glad to see your post, Laz

    Like all the others I've thought about you and wondered how you were doing.  Good luck with your CT. 

    I had neuropathy in my legs that began about a month after treatment (March 2013) and it's just been within the past month or 2 that it's gone away.  Mine lessened gradually and I hope yours does too.
