    Things that I can tolerate

After almost 5 years post diagnosis of stage 4 left tonsil, I become very used to iced coffee only, with just a dab of Half-and-Half and a spoonful of Orange blossom Honey.  My night time sippage of choice....(which seems to burn just a tad) is a Bloody Mary made of two jiggers of plain Tomato juice, a jigger of Kettle One, squeeze of 1/8 fresh lime, small squirt of Lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon of Wochestershire sauce....all over a 12 oz cup of ice.  Good stuff (to me anyway).

    Larry

    Maybe it's the citrus juices

I like a Bloody mary every now and then, but leave out the lime and/or lemon jiuce to avoid the burn.  Try that.

    Coffee

Your comment about coffee got my attention.  I used to be a big coffee drinker.  I didn't drink a lot every day, but really liked it--the stronger the better. Since completing treatments, all coffee tastes like bad instant coffee to me, so I have stopped drinking it.  I do order it every once in a while so I can wrap my hands around the cup to get warm and enjoy the aroma!

    Coffee

I was a huge coffee drinker but now a luke warm cup just makes me choke up a little and doesn't taste right to me either! UNLESS it's a thick creamy latte. The only way I can enjoy coffee everyday is with lots of ice. I know..it smells so good then disappoints!!

    Wine

I used to love a glass of CaBernet but now it's a bit painful to enjoy.   I'm hoping when I can finely get rid of the Thrush once and for all I can still enjoy a nice glass of wine.   I may have to back off the Cabs to something lighter/less tannins but I'm going to keep trying the Cabs because I like them so much.    My wife stuck through me through thick and thin as I went through the treatments but she said she was going to divorce me if I didn't start drinking wine again.   I think she was serious:).

I didn't drink a cup of coffee from April until probably Sep but once I got my sweet taste buds back I like it just the way I used to With half and half and sugar.

i am a great DD now for sure!

    cabs

I've been drinking little wine but wife got a nice bottle for Xmas. Comment was to lay down for 6 - 8 years - it lasted maybe 6 hours. lol Bouquet and taste were wonderful but the tannins did make for some huge pucker action. If you like cabs I'm sure you can find them with less tannin. Whatever you don't like, send them on over. Happy New Year!

Cannot imagine drinking alcohol ever again

I used to enjoy a glass or 2 of white wine like  a Savingion Blanc, Gewutztraminer, or Vioginer on the weekend.  I would love to have some Prosecco for New Years, but am sure it would gag me and send me into coughing fits so it will be a long time before I try any alcohol again  and I am listening to my body on this one!

    Cheers,

    Coffee tea me

Like they say everyone is different - coffee does not taste the same as it use to- but I drink a few cups every morning out of habit. Chocolate- still tastes salty to me as do all sweets- water still tastes metalic - any alcohol still burns a bit but that don't stop me. Yet I work with some one who is 4 weeks out of treatment from tonsil cancer with almost the same treatment as me although I don't know the particulars as I had an unknown primary( I am sure a lot more things got radiated than my friend did) and he has all his taste, no fatigue and no side effects. Soda burns as well- I drink lots of water even though it tastes like metal. 13 months still have this thick stuff I am constantly swallowing - but I am able to eat- so I am thankful-

    Coffee with cream

Coffee, strong coffee with milk, but it must be very hot for me to enjoy.

as for alcohol, beer is good.  All else tastes like turpentine.  I miss a good Kettle One martini.  It just isn't worth the money.

After my HBO dives, my saliva got better and now I enjoy a small glass of chardenney or beer now.  Saliva helps everything taste a little better.

all the best to all you survivors in 2014

    coffee/soda

I've been out of treatments about 2 1/2 years, in the beginning coffee and all drinks tasted bad but I would drink a cup of coffee with my wife every morning out of memory. Fast foward to today and coffee tastes great, soda still not so great but I'm content not going back to a diet pepsi addiction, but it is starting to taste a Lot better. Give it time. Happy New Year Everyone!!!

3.5 years enjoying it all again.

I can drink pretty much anything I want red wines and beer, never was much a mixed drink person. I do tend to stay away from spicier wines, but I was like that before.  My theory is that it's like a newborn babies mouth; You have to expose your new throat to different tatses all over again.  Happy New Year!  Life is short!

    Cheers!
