Glad you got that dang tumor out that was giving you soooo much grief. I'm not understanding about you saying it's a new primary that is causing the mets?? With being diagnosed Stage 1V are these not part of metastatic disease. I questioned my onc. about this one time and he told me I have microscopic systemic disease that tumors could pop up anywhere in my body ...... basically cells floating through your entire body, it's basically about them finding a place, taking root and growing.

The tumor that was removed is a New Primary Colon Tumor, is that, a brand new colon tumor, not a metasitis from the original colon cancer, but a brand new type of colon tumor. This one will also have to be tested for KRAS as it is of new origin and they told me it could be KRAS mutant and not KRAS wild like my original colon tumor, so I'm hoping this one is also KRAS wild, but since the Irenotican and Erbitux didn't work on it, it's possible that it is KRAS mutant.
Because of new primary, the mets to the liver could be from old or new primary colon tumor. Don't that bite. It's like starting all over again.

I'm glad that they are least testing for the KRAS. It would be shameful if they treated you with something that wasn't going to work. You are your best advocate and I'm glad that you are taking charge. You have been through so much lately and I'm just so glad that you have been relieved from that big tumor that was hurting you.

I cannot believe how this tumor popped up and grew to a sizeable mass without showing up on scans!!! Do CT scans not show what's going on in your colon?? Ya drink the contrast, what's that supposed to do? Maybe only a colonoscopy would show something like this....sheesh. Makes you wonder how long ago it started growing before it gave you grief. I read somewhere, on some article regarding K-Ras mutant cells, apparently in this one paper I read, their belief was that some tumors that tested K-ras wild actually contained some K-ras mutant cells and that contributed to treatment failure .....

it showed up once, in October 2012, so know I've had it at least since then, every scan since, even the one done on the Friday before surgery showed it had disappeared, so it spent at least a year growing (it had to start before it showed up the one time). The colonoscopy was the only thing that showed the tumor still existed and had increased in size, the doc could not get the scope around it. My oncologist said that this happens more times then you would think, that with all the mess in the stomach it is easy for tumors to "hide". Colonoscopies for me every year now!!

Wow....just wow ..... so much for relying on scans!!! Check out coloncans post .... about personalized cancer treatment and Kras wild .... it may lead you to that article I saw regarding K-ras status.....
