Neuropathy

Hi all, apologies for my slackness in keeping active on the site with regards to posting. Fair to say more of a observer then participator. I have been working on getting my systems back online post treatment and as reinforced by all the comments / posts on this site, the majority of things do come back in time for most. Personally I am not sure how I would have got through the treatment without this site and the fact it tells it like it is. Plain and simple.

I thought I would share something that has worked for me with regards to the neuropathy I had post treament. I have been undergoing Pilates classes once a week and boy has it helped the neuropathy. The deep stretching has really helped with the neuropathy in my legs and also the nerves in my neck following my neck dissection. It may not work for everyone but well worth a go in my opinion. Believe me, I was a little skeptical being a New Zealand rugby playing, meat eating, beer drinking male!

Have a good weekend.

    you raise a good point

And I agree with you a thousand percent.  If we push hard for recovery, it can shave months or years off the time to return to our best condition. I have a host of problems after my multiple treatments, and much like you have done, I figure out the best approach to improve upon them, and fly into whatever program is required of me to ameliorate the situation.  Thanks for posting.

    Specifics

I would greatly appreciate if you would describe, or post a link(s) to, stretches/exercises that would help the neuropathy in the feet and hands.  Thank you.

This is a good thing to know

and give it a try.  I have neuropathy in both my hands and feet.....feet don't bother me much, but my hands make me crazy sometimes....especially in the winter (this is Montana, so winter is the main season of the year)....

    Thanks for the great idea.

    Agreed

Since I have been working out the neuropathy in my feet has really become a non issue- its still there but nowhere near what it was in terms of pain

    Thank You, Dune

I wanted to say a special "Thank You" for this suggestion. My daughter, Johnnybegood, has been a member of the Colon forum, being diagnosed in Sept. 2008 with Stage IV Colon Cancer. She has suffered with neuropathy for a long time and now has what is known as Hand & Foot Syndrome due to many years of chemo and is equally destructive to quality of life. I referred her to your link to check out the exercises as she needs to exercise without being on her feet. She has had to defer chemo for several weeks to try and allow her feet to heal, but since she is on chemo for life, this action could be very detrimental for her, so appreciate any suggestion that could help her.

As a side note, in case you are wondering why I am on this board, My husband was a H&N patient.

    Luv,

    Wolfen
